In last 3 years, General Raheel Sharif has become a blessing for Pakistan. Just the person we needed to keep our country intact. His visionary moves and decision, his leadership qualities all have proved to be fruitful for Pakistan. If we look back at what it was like before him, its horrifying.

The amount of respect and love this man has earned from Pakistanis, not just for himself but for the whole army, is huge. Now that its time for him to retire, I want to know how he will be viewed in future. Our people have a short memory and not just that, once a person is off his position, we seem to start disrespecting him in various ways. It has happened in the past as well. On duty army chiefs were loved and adored but once they retired, all the love went out of the window.

I would like to know if in your view General Raheel will also be be treated like his predecessors? Or the love and respect he has now will remain as it is.

Do you think he can contribute after getting retired as well?

The previous COAS, Gen. Kayani, was treated with same respect when he was in office, but once he left the political knives came out.

But he was not publicly admired as much. In his time terrorism was blowing out of proportion and there were a lot of questions raised regarding ISI and army's performance. Now its totally different. Terrorism has almost been wiped off so both are different.

I think he has gained alot of respect but he has not completed the task initiated... Not a single corrupt poltician burecrat or business man is punished ... Dr asim ... Dollar girl ... Zardari cases... Panama leak ... No conclusion on any of the case ... So this failure might hunt his reputation in future ...

That wasn't his job. His job was to eliminate terrorism and he succeeded in that. We have other relevant institutions for political accountability. We have NAB, we have judiciary, we have anti corruption departments. If everything is to be done by the army why do we spend money on these useless institutions?

In Kiyani's regime the army's image was doubted in public and attacks like GHQ made it more questionable.
Sharif changed it entirely, the moral of army got higher and the confidence of nation is at its peak now.. His contributions are undeniable and would never be forgotten...

He may be called by military as an advisor in certain matters.

You are right in a sense...but he himself raised our expectation on anti corruption... He made statement several times, tht we will break mexus of corruption and terrorism.. He also said tht without rootong out corruption, terrorism cant be eliminated... When you say these things not once, but repeatedly then u should fulfil ur committment.. Either he shouldhave been more careful before saying these things..he should hv known, tht what he is saying..how will we ensure it? He should hv had a framework on mind before saying tht we will break nexus of corruption and terrorism at any cost or he shouldnt hv said it.... He raised our expectations so much on this, and now will leave without fulfilling it...this is the only area where he lacked or didnt fulfil his promise..

He punished high ranked army personnel for corruption. That was a great example for the army chiefs to come. As far as corruption and terrorism is concerned, the forces played their role in getting a lot of big fishes arrested such as dr asim, ayan ali etc but now its the duty of judiciary to punish them. If they walk free then we obviously have a malfunctioning judiciary and political system.

None so far but the achievements are at a whole new level this time in my opinion.

i have noticed a general pattern - columnists fall over the feet to praise existing army chiefs and are vicious towards anyone who has retired

Punishment LOLZ.

Expression of displeasure and retirement with all benefits intact is indeed a huge punishment. Well done Raheel Sharif

You have laid down a shining example of accountability.

I agree to this point. This is not Raheel Sharif's job to hold civilians accountable for corruption.
