National Bureau of Statistics releases the true numbers, and hence they are transparent about it.

Can you please vote here?

Also, describe separately by writing a post here, how much importance do you give to human resources, what do you think about Chinese demographics, how serious a problem it is, etc.

Not really serious. Demographics is one aspect of social engineering and there is always spaces for improvement. It is not just birth rate either, it also include other stuff ranging from population distribution around the country, education level to more obscure/tangential parameters such as nutrient intake, youth physical exercise. So out of caution, I am not going to vote "no problem at all".

It should be remembered that while demographic issue is an often discussed problem today. In truth, its seriousness is more or less amplified by the factor today's world doesn't have as much (fundamental) problems as the past. I mean, the ancients (and a large number of nations today) are hardly concerned about demographics when they are struggling to put food on the table.

For China specifically, I don't really think it is serious. Here is why-----you have a country that has resources, ability and will to act and favorable economic and military strength to fend off external threat, why wouldn't the country be able to handle any issue?

Then why doubt the 7% growth!!
Also, what did you vote?

Again,a poll like this wont get you anywhere, you can get much more useful information even by watching some Chinese TV dramas, bcs you will know the CCP getting worried by demographics when lots of TV shows starting to air promoting the image of the “perfect family”,which has two lovely children. ;)

Frankly I do trust the statistic bureau, but not the NHFPC,which has the real first hand numbers.

Because the economic and military strength relies on demographics. On the number of people you have.

Chinese demographics is a problem but there's alot more pressing problems.

Yes. But the single biggest problem in the long run is demographics.

Look at Japan for that. The effects of aging and declining population.

Once the population of China begins to age, and decline, the following will happen:
  1. Savings rate will come down dramatically.
  2. Growth Rate will stagnate.
  3. Countries with younger populations will start to capture markets and defeat Chinese companies (Younger populations are more innovative, a reason why companies like Sony, Toshiba weren't able to innovate and lost out)
  4. China will enter a perennial deflationary stage.
  5. Since China already has a decent bit of debt, the deflation will be in particular bad, as it will only increase the debt burden.

Some of the problems will be mitigated by the Chinese culture of taking care of the parents/elders etc.

However it is troubling that many elderly people are already suffering in places like South Korea because of the very low birth rate even 20 years back....children are expecting the govt to step in more and more and many get caught in the vicious transition. We will have to see how China manages it....nothing is firmly set in stone, although it does have the potential to go very bad.

NHFPC is not responsible for census and population statistics, it is the Statistics department that is.

Overpopulation is not a good thing. Take India as a prime example as this article point out.

Overpopulation in India - Causes, Effects, Stats and How to control it? | My India

Poverty and Illiteracy:
Another factor for the rapid growth of population is poverty. Impoverished families have this notion that more the number of members in the family, more will be the numbers to earn income. Some feel that more children are needed to look after them in their old age.

Early Marriage and Universal Marriage System: Even though legally the marriageable age of a girl is 18 years, the concept of early marriage still prevails and getting married at an young age prolongs the child bearing age

Age old cultural norm: Sons are the bread earners of the families in India

The above causes are interrelated to the various social issues in our country which are leading to over population.

Effects of overpopulation:

Unemployment: Generating employment for a huge population in a country like India is very difficult.

--->double digit growth, nothing but a pipe dream

  • Manpower utilisation: The number of jobless people is on the rise in India due to economic depression and slow business development and expansion activities.
  • Pressure on infrastructure: Development of infrastructural facilities is unfortunately not keeping pace with the growth of population. The result is lack of transportation, communication, housing, education, healthcare etc. There has been an increase in the number of slums, overcrowded houses, traffic congestion etc.
  • Resource utilisation: Land areas, water resources, forests are over exploited. There is also scarcity of resources.
  • Decreased production and increased costs: Food production and distribution have not been able to catch up with the increasing population and hence the costs of production have increased. Inflation is the major consequence of over population.
  • Inequitable income distribution: In the face of an increasing population, there is an unequal distribution of income and inequalities within the country widen
