Gurdwara Punja Sahib echoed with religious slogans of Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa, Wahe Guru Ji Ki Fateh on Sunday morning as pilgrims from across the world poured into the third most sacred place of Sikh religion in Hassanabdal to celebrate the 549th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.

Over 3,800 Indian Sikh pilgrims, 148 from the United Kingdom, seven from UAE and thousands of Sikh and Hindu devotees from various parts of the country, especially Fata and interior Sindh, arrived at the gurdwara to perform their rituals which include Akhand Path, Ashnan, Matha Teak, and Kirtan.

A political row had erupted in India after Navjot Singh Sidhu visited Pakistan in August this year to attend the oath-taking ceremony of Imran Khan as the Prime Minister.

Elaborated security measures were taken in and around the gurdwara where dozens of officials from the security agencies were deployed.

Talking to the media, leader of the Indian pilgrims Marjeet Singh lauded the role of the Pakistani government in opening Kartarpur corridor. He said with the opening of this corridor, the Pakistani government had won the hearts of millions of Sikhs living on the other side of the border. The number of pilgrims had also increased compared to last year, he added.

Kartarpur Corridor: A new hope for peace

Prime Minister Imran Khan will lay the foundation stone of Kartarpur corridor on November 28, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi confirmed on Thursday. India also has seemingly accepted the proposal by approving development on the Indian side.

In a message posted on micro-blogging website Twitter, the Foreign Minister stated that Pakistan has already conveyed to India its decision to open Kartarpura Corridor for Baba Guru Nanak’s 550th birth anniversary. “PM Imran Khan will do break ground at Kartarpura facilities on 28th November. We welcome the Sikh community to Pakistan for this auspicious occasion,” the minister added.

On the Indian side, the Union Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, also approved the development of the Kartarpur corridor from Dera Baba Nanak in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district to the International Border. This will give Indian pilgrims easy access to the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur on the banks of the Ravi river, in Pakistan, where Guru Nanak Dev spent 18 years.

For many, the opening of the Kartarpur corridor is a welcome step in the right direction for peace. The announcement was immediately welcomed by Islamabad as ‘victory for peace’.

A political row had erupted in India after Navjot Singh Sidhu visited Pakistan in August this year to attend the oath-taking ceremony of Imran Khan as the Prime Minister. He claimed that Pakistan Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa had told him that Islamabad would open a corridor to Kartarpur Sahib in Narowal district of Pakistan on the 550th anniversary of Guru Nanak in 2019.

According to Indian media, Sidhu subsequently met External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to initiate talks between India and Pakistan on the Kartarpur corridor issue. After the meeting, Akali leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal said Swaraj accused Sidhu of messing up the Kartarpur Sahib corridor dialogue and misusing the political clearance that he was granted to visit Pakistan.

No matter what KK warriors say, Kartarpur corridor offer is checkmate and have dwarfed "Modi's stop over in Pakistan" stunt. Expect black swan as desperate attempt to sabotage it as all other tactics have fell apart.

Sikh are welcome here. They can now see that its the Hindu who doesn't have best of intentions.

The systematic use of religion, the setting up of one religion vs the other, the denigration of one religion and ts entire followers by admins no less. Yes, this is the new standard of PDF. The bigotry of the admin staff, or at least that of one particular mod is on glorious, illuminating display.

@Oscar , @waz This is disappointing, really.

@Joe Shearer , Im not sure if I am overreacting. but this deplorable behaviour here has gone unchecked for far too long. The host servers (belonging to US), and google is required, morally and legally under US, EU and Indian laws to ban and restrict availability of sites promoting and encouraging systematic bigotry and racial/religiously motivated hatred/targeting. We have had talks with certain firms that provide access, directly or indirectly regarding their culpability. Do you think its time to force compliance? I'm requesting your opinion as one of the most respected voices IMHO.

It's more than 2 years now, and many members left, believing the situation to be irredeemable. You are late to the party.

[Just to make things clear, I left for other reasons, under an unpleasant piece of blackmail in which Pakistani members were in no way involved. My return is due to some confidence that what happened may not be repeated. ]

As long as there are those who will go to any lengths to convey their hate of other religions, other nationalities and other ethnicities at any cost, any amount of whistle-blowing is not going to be of any use. You may remember the Twitter fiasco some quarters earlier.

I have always maintained that there is a reasonable segment of Pakistani members, and there is an unreasonable segment; in recent years, the unreasonable segment has been given carte blanche. There is no point appealing to them, there is no point in hoping for a change of attitude. Only those fortunate enough to be under the protective umbrella of the others, the number of forthright and very decent members of the admin., as I have been fortunate, can stay on, and participate, even if in a limited capacity.

Regarding your specific thoughts, it would be disloyal on my part, having participated and continuing to participate in the goings on, to recommend what you have in mind or to take a position against the administration. I have to suggest that you continue to appeal to the rational side of offensive members, including offensive members of the administration. However, you must do what you feel it is right to do. Others can only share their opinion with you, as I am doing.

- how will you stop indian dams on chenab and jhelum ?

.
This Pakistan Govt. outshamed Pakistanis only. Diplomacy by definition means implementation of interests. What Pakistani interests have been achieved? At a time when KAshmiris are being killed in dozens and our allies being attacked on our home soil. Just imagine the visual are r*ndi foreign office officials giving bouquet to hindutaliban representative BJP MPs like Harsimrat Badal and Puri, with Imran Khan licking their feet.

Agree with @blueazure, there can be no equality with a hindu. They understand only one language and its strength not shamelessness.

. .
They had seen in 47, 65 , 71, 99 , 2001 and 2008.

lol

Hindus can be coward. But 120 Sikhs clearly proved 1 sikh = 10 muslims at Lungewala.

Rofl did'nt your coward baap tell you about Chamb sector Jammu and 5353 Kargil [1999] which is with Pakistan.

Hahahah lost Tibet and ran from khem karan a sikh majority area in 1965.

LEts hope this effort makes way for Khalistan to be built in Indian Punjab .

First step in a self inflicted dismantling of Pak as we know it.

20 years too late. Politicizing and point scoring only makes the gesture even more meaningless.
