How Obsessed Are Indians With Fair Skin? | ASIAN BOSS

.
This obsession with fair skinned is based in Hindu caste system in which fair skinned people have higher status than the dark skinned people. The Indo-European Aryans invaders from Eurasia were white skinned compared to black skinned Dravidians who they conquered nearly 3500 years ago. In Islam, all human are equal before God while Hinduism divides them according to the caste and color of skin.

Its not only the Indians, its all over Asia. I can't speak for other continents. The last time when I was in Dhaka in 2018, I met a family friends daughter that I initially almost could not recognize. She was barely 10 years old and had a darker skin tone when I saw her last in 2009.
Unfortunately a large fraction of the younger female population believe pale/fair skin will make them more confident and more desirable !

The tone of skin color of the Chinese people doesn't vary as much as Indians do,most Chinese just have that normal Chinese skin color, people from certain parts of China do have lighter skin through, some whtie friends told me that they found many girls from Sichuan province are more fair skinned than white girls while in far south western China we have Wa people whose skin is just as dark as Indians if not darker.

Dark skin women can still be beautiful though.

Kimmi Jayanti/ Indonesian (half Tamil) supermodel.

Skin color is one thing, what's more important is actually the quality of the skin, a lot of white people are actually very hairy with very poor leathery complexion.

This is an issue in Pakistan as well to a degree. Having lighter skin signifies that you do not work the fields, hence you are perceived to be wealthier. Being too light-skinned (for a man) is not considered a good thing though, especially in Punjab where it is viewed as feminine.

I personally find the darker & the healthy skin in a woman a lot more attractive.

I think it is up to the face though. If the girl already has beautiful face she will still be considered attractive, regardless of the skin tone. Hollywood also play the role, they only hire a beautiful lady to play in the movie so it makes the viewer (read: us) think that being white is automatically equal to being pretty, while in fact there are many white women who are just average out there.

It is ironic that people here in the west like tanned skin and women sunbathe or even attend solar-clinics or use tan-sprays to get tanned but their media promotes white skin as being the beautiful which is wrong. There's a huge cosmetic industry (multi-billion dollars) that benefits from this false concept so it tries to perpetuate it.

Your post is right on. India obsession with skin tone is above and beyond what other Asian countries can understand. It’s all due to caste vs skin tone. Brahmins are traditionally Indo Europeans and lower castes were Dravidians. But all Indians hope to become higher caste. Though they know that they can only achieve in the next life, they would still lighten their skin to feel that they are more superior.

Same in kpk, being fair skinned is seen as a feminine trait.
