I thought I'd post this thread to see if there are ideas/interest in inviting more Afghans to join the discussion on: defence.pk/forums/afghanistan-defence-forum.151

I think it can only be beneficial if more Afghans join the discussion. Despite enmity, acrimonious words and histories we cannot ignore that fact that Afghans are closest to us culturally and I think it is important to build as many fora of communication in out estranged family as possible.

What I envision is to reach out to Afghans on social media -- Twitter and Facebook and encourage them to join.

I also think we should add an Afghan section to defense.pk as there is a wealth of cultural stuff that is shared here that is unfortunately missing even on Afghan sites [which are mostly dead]

Thoughts welcome

Most Afghans here are expats. Afghanistan has a really bad Internet service.

Well I meant really the expats and those of the elite like @A-Team

and literacy...
And those who live in west have resources for strange reasons show imense hatered for Pakistan despite we fed them for decades and continuing even on the sake of our own security and economy.

well yes -- even if there is hatred, it is a starting place.

the only active Afghan i see here @ A team . They usually don't use forums . Even their own forums have very low users . Maybe only major Cities Like Kabul , Mazar e sharif etc have good internet .

http://www.internetlivestats.com/internet-users-by-country/

Only 6.8 % of them have access to internet.

well in the 2005 -- 2010 there were a lot of vibrant Afghan forums filled with Expats -- yes very racially charged posts against Pakistanis -- but in my opinion any dialog is generally better than no dialog.

We are both people whose ancestors practiced vedic religions and now we haven taken on names such as Ahmad, Shehryar, etc. etc. -- I think we should encourage Afghans to participate. There are so many expats on Twitter -- we should invite them I think

This site has built itself a reputation among the online South Asian community as a very jingoistic and nationalistic Pakistani website. I know that the Afghans on Pashtunforums despise Defense.pk for being pro-Pakistani. It will be difficult to shed this reputation and attract Afghan users to this site.

Besides the reasons stated above, this forum is too political and nationalistic for most Afghans. Only Afghans with thick skin can survive here. Most Afghans are straight forward and short tempered like most rural people, they will tell you what they think and will be banned, lol

So in other words Pakistanis here well have to become pro afghan to attract the Afghan crowd?

well perhaps we can work with the moderators to make this thread a bit more of an exception.

But I think it is sad that 3 million Afghans live in Pakistan but they can't find a home on this forum (ok slightly snide remark but I hope you'll forgive me ;-) )

Not true. Afghans are welcomed here.

Horus, are you opposed if some of us organize a drive to recruit Afghan members?

We can make a list of Afghans on Twitter and we can welcome them. Perhaps we can get @Sher Malang and @A-Team to pitch in with the messaging.

Maybe we can have a special welcome message for them.

I think most Afghans would take extreme offence at that, though I suspect it may be true in the case of Nuristanis, Pashai and Kohistanis.
