Honour killing by Muslim parents in India: Wife seeks justice for husband's death

New Delhi: In a shocking incident of honour killing a few weeks ago in Jammu and Kashmir parents of a Muslim girl allegedly killed her husband who was a Hindu. The girl and her in-laws are now hoping for an enquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

For 27-year-old Aanchal Sharma the fight for justice won’t stop until she sees her father and brothers behind bars.

She believes they were behind the killing of her husband Rajneesh, who was arrested by the Srinagar police on charges of abduction just a month after their marriage and was later found dead inside a police lockup.

Aanchal was originally a Kashmiri Muslim but became a Hindu to marry Rajneesh.

"My both brothers were present when he was being arrested. My father and brothers are responsible for his death," alleges Aanchal.

Rajneesh's body showed signs of brutal torture which go against police claim that he committed suicide.

"They don't vene treat terrorist like he was treated. He was brutally beaten up and his face was disfigured. Why was he being punished? He was then hanged in his cell," claims Rajneesh's brother Pawan Sharma.

After her husbands death on October 5 Aanchal has been with her in-laws and petitioning the Supreme Court for an investigation.

"I will not let my husband's death go in vain. I want justice," says Aanchal.

Aanchal and her in-laws have been in Delhi for almost a month now. Since then, they have been running form pillar to post in order to get justice.

The hearing in the Supreme Court is scheduled on November 27 and they are hoping that there will finally be a CBI inquiry into the matter.

This also happens in India, had it been other way round whole of Forum here would have said ..India in Unsecular and BJP/RSS do this. etc... Attrocities and unjustice is not prerogative of Muslims okay.

I believe that this honor killing sickness is not copy righted by Muslims. So I would suggest you to take that racist remark out. You guys wont spare a minute to come up with something like that when ever Muslims are involved. and drag all of the Muslims in it as it is universally accepted by us. It was a revenge act by some guys whose daughter and or sister married some one out of their religion. That is happening every where and people practicing it belong to different religions but unfortunately the media only picks it up when the word Muslim can be highlighted in the case. Have you forgotten the glorious past of the Hindu religion where the so called honor was so much at stake that Sati was allowed and accepted widely.

Then this my friend is the case of police brutality. And not honor killing. And if the brother and father of the girl are involved then it is the the same thing that happens in Pakistan and India and that is the rich mans justice.

Its very rare in south India. Northern states esp. Jatt community in Punjab/Haryana people are still murdered for daring to marry without their family's acceptance.

It’s worth mentioning here that the concept of “honor killings” is not limited to Islam but seems to be part of numerous cultures. While many cultures have engaged in honour killings, most have abandoned the practice or are in the process of doing so.

I see two differences here between Islamic honor killings and this Sikh honor killing:

(1) They actually killed someone who did something wrong (i.e. the victim committed adultery) as opposed to the usual Islamic scenario where a woman who has been raped will be killed and her attacker will suffer no consequences.

(2) Official Sikh groups have come out to condemn this crime in strong terms.

There is one honor killing every week in Istanbul alone !!!
