Hong Kong’s protests have gained a large amount of traction in the international media since they began on September 27, 2014. Meanwhile, Pakistan has had protests around the country going back to August 15, 2014, that were triggered by an accumulation of events ranging from questions about the validity of last year’s democratic elections to the death of 14 people on June 17, 2014 in Model Town, Lahore, Pakistan.

Over the weekend that the protests began in Hong Kong, there was a protest rally in Lahore, Pakistan, with an estimated attendance between 500,000 and 700,000 people. There are many things that are different about the context of the protests in Hong Kong and Pakistan. Yet, in both cases there are large numbers of people exercising their democratic right to protest and at times meeting government resistance.

In this photo essay, you will find 14 images of these two protests. Below the link to the photo gallery is a chart comparing data about Hong Kong and Pakistan.
