When I said "small", it means kind of average city in China, of course, Ningbo is a big city for its population and size with compare to other city in the world!

No! Even in China, Ningbo is far more than a small city.
It is the third largest city of China's richest province - ZheJiang Province,
with Hangzhou 9 million, Wenzhou 9.1 million and Ningbo 8 million in population.
Ningbo is also one of important industry city of Yangtze Delta River Triangle.

A small city in China normally means population less than 1 million.
More than 5 million can be considered as a large city.
More than 10 million is Metropolis.
Ningbo is closed to a metropolis, so it is not Small.
from 1 to 5 million is middle scale city.

Ningbo was my first exposure to China.

Its a wonderful place with some great Indian restaurants . The Drive / train ride to Shanghai is wonderful.

the railway trip Ningbo to Shanghai cannot be called wonderful yet. The train still needs to by-pass Hangzhou, because of the sea in between Shanghai and Ningbo.

We are going to build a new railway bridge across the sea to link Shanghai and Ningbo. Once finished, the Shanghai/Ningbo trip by train needs only about 60min.

The following news from CRCC (China Railway Construction Corp.) confirms the plan on this new bridge. The CRCC news said one of its subsidiary wins the bidding of this project.

IMO it's not a small city, in fact it's the third largest in Zhejiang province (after Hangzhou, Wenzhou). Out of some many industrial and tech-driven candidates, Ningbo is selected as the first pilot city for Made in 2025, it is highly competitive.
