Dear compatriots and other distinguished members of this forum,

This is Shehryar Hussein from Santa Clara, CA. Even though my family is from Lahore, we're in the states since the 50s! That obviously means I'm the second generation in our family born and brought up in the US.

A little history about me and my family. Circa 1950, Our Grandpa came to the States. Having lost everything during the partition struggle, there was nothing to brighten up his future. He travelled through various countries as a cleaning staff in a ship and finally came to the States. Started living here illegally, he got married to our Grandma, an ordinary yet bold Muslim woman who had roots in Egypt and Jordan. Both of my parents are born here Hoover, AL and me and brother also grew up here as well. Grandad went back to Pakistan 20 years after he came here but was pained to see nothing in his village was left and everything was on shambles. On a couple of occasion, our Dad visited Pakistan and he always praised the hospitality and great food of the land.

As usual, Grandpa and Dad laid the seed of a Pakistani in me and along with me it grew up in my mind. The global image of the country is nothing to boast of, but we're slowly getting back to it. I heard a lot about this, "If anyone have a bad feeling about Pakistan, let them travel to the country. They'll return as a new person, praising the country." That's the Charisma and Aura of the people living in Indus.

I came here after going through some retweets and shares from Twitter. I was enthralled by the diverse members registered on this forum, and nothing better than that on a forum to gain knowledge.

By the way, I'm not very good at posting or long GDs, but will contribute from the best of my knowledge and experience.

Thanks for having me onboard,
SH.

Welcome, why is the city set to
Hoover, AL
First of all, thanks for accepting my account here dear Webmaster. I hardly ever communicated with a webmaster online (though I do work with a few at work). My parents are settled in Hoover and we have a couple of condos over there. Like Chris Martin of Coldplay sang: Home... Home... where I want to to go....

Welcome to the forum.

I have some relatives that came to California very early on as well, they were originally from Hoshiarpur (border region of Kashmir and East Punjab) originally.

Thank you! My Grandpa is actually from the Chinnakowindi ( I hope I spell it correctly) area which lies very near to the Pakistan - India border. Cali is relatively new to me as I had spent most of my time at Hoover and Birmingham.

Welcome to the Forum.

Thanks everyone for your warm welcome and considering me as one of your member. I have no issues with sharing my name online. Especially when my middle name is not disclosed. ;) As long as I don't have a Facebook account, my data is safe (sorry for the bad joke).

No dear, in the US. Alabama precisely. You'll find a lot of blokes there with English and Irish ancestry. AFAIK lot of original settlers were from these two countries.
