Similar to other Hindu practices and beliefs such a considering the cow sacred, not eating its beef but using its urine and feces for medicinal and religious purposes, the caste system and devadasis there is another very important Hindu custom which unfortunately has been suppressed due to foreign domination and influence. The Muslim rulers discouraged it but did not totally stop it but it was the British who ruthlessly rooted out the practice. This nobel and sacred Hindu practice is Sati, where widows would kill themselves by jumping in the funeral pyres of their husbands.
My question is that with the resurgence of Hinduism thanks to Modi Bhai, should there also be a revival of this custom? Should the influence of foreigners and colonialist be purged from the law books? Should Sati be actively revived and in fact celebrated as a sacred cornerstone of Hindu religion and culture?
There is a lot of talk about how ancient Hindus had developed sophisticated technologies which have implications even today so why not consider reviving other old Hindu practices such as Sati.
The revival will have significant positive social impact. It will address issue of millions of Hindu widows who live in Ashrams shunned by the society.
I would appreciated a good positive discussion especially from the Indian members who seems to spend more time on Pakistani defense sites than anywhere else.
