But this person should have not started this whole mess by saying there is no Bangla in India. As though India is defined by one sole language and culture.

I don't understand why they cannot let India be regarding what it is, and they in turn will be left alone. It must be hangover from their birth in 1971, language = country period. Anything else is unsustainable and an affront to their sensibilities of nationhood.

But ultra-nationalist defence types in defence boards for some reason just cannot fathom any topic that says BD is an ally of India....it somehow demeans them.

You can ask @That Guy about just what lengths they go to try disprove the alliance/subservience (however you want to define it). Try being the operative word.

That being said there are a few BD members like @Russell who I genuinely respect and appreciate for being pragmatic, realistic and balanced.

Do I really need to? How realistic would be an opinion based upon a 7-day fancy tour of a country? Millions of 'Bengalis' uprooted from what is now Bangladesh should give one more than enough clues.

Do also remember that my 'desher bari' is in a place that is one of the biggest refugee settlement areas in the world comprising of 'Bengalis' forced out of parts of Bengal which is now Bangladesh, only for being non-Muslims, and that place still receives good number Bengalis from Bangladesh who had to leave their homeland for their non-Muslim identity, in spite of being Bengalis.........so much for being a country for Bengalis.

Bangladesh didn't seperate and started off as Bangladesh, it wanted to be a 'Country for Muslims' first and started off as East Pakistan, the ethnicity became a strong political force after Punjabi Muslims started showing discrimination against Bengali Muslims. Bangladesh can at best be described as a 'country of Bengali Muslims' only, and even then there is not enough consensus on the 'Bengali' part...that part may not even be permanent if Jamatis become a stronger political force.
