Hero Alom aspires to campaign with ‘lion’ symbol

After getting cleared by the High Court to run for the 11th parliamentary election, the district’s Ashraful Hossain Alam, more popularly known as Hero Alom, is all set to commence his electoral campaign once he receives the “lion” symbol from the district’s returning officer.
The independent candidate distributed sweets all across his voting constituency, Bogra 4, consisting of the Kahaloo and Nandigram upazilas on Tuesday.
He plans on visiting the returning officer’s office on Wednesday to apply and receive the “lion” symbol; one that he prefers to campaign with.
“My nomination was initially scrapped on baseless reasons, but the court proved that justice prevails for those who are right,” he said.
For this, the celebrity is thankful to the judges, the media and his fans.
He anticipates a fierce contest during the upcoming polls, which according to him, may go in his favor.
Locals in Kahaloo and Nandigram said that discussions regarding Hero Alom have been going on across the towns.
“His addition will make the election even more competitive,” said Abdul Hannan, a resident of Nandigram’s Badlasan village.
Huge crowds gather in areas the actor pays visit to, they added.
Reactions of other candidates
In light of Hero Alom’s nomination finally being accepted, his competitors in the district sounded off on his candidature.
Bogra 4 BNP candidate Mosharraf Hossain said: “Anyone who is of the required age can contest the election. The people of the region will evaluate him based on his work and popularity. I wish him the best.”
“Our government believes it is the fundamental right of everyone to have a shot at contesting the election, should they be eligible. Every candidate will take part in this free, fair, and peaceful election,” Grand Alliance candidate and JaSoD (Inu) leader AKM Rezaul Karim Tansen said.
However, Tansen refused to comment on Hero Alom himself.
Kahaloo Upazila Chairman and upazila Awami League President Helal Uddin Kabiraj said Hero Alom is a new face in this constituency, and a popular figure because of the media.
“While he is popular with the young generation, I doubt he will make much headway in the polls. Then again, the people of this country are unpredictable, and thus it is important not to discount anyone,” he added.
