I disagree with the lower bound numbers for the middle class. They are way too low to be considered 'Middle class.' What is Middle-class income range in your countries?

There's no problem with those entry level numbers, man.

Check how they vary from Mississippi to urban-centric states.
Middle Class would be the central third of a population in most
people's view. So its margin doubles in scope between subsets,
not a big disparity in itself and it covers a six-fold overall spread
which is not abnormal either.

In a society where a third of the population has no private access
to water all the way down to no access to potable water, the entry
level to Middle Class would be indoor plumbing, owned or rented.

Just remember that the geographic division of the subset is part
of the question and consider the implications for the whole set :

At minima, under the 3-way split public view hypothesis, a third,
1/3 of Americans earn less than 25 000 bucks per year : 100M+.

That's in the most powerful land on Earth so it gives you an idea
of what it could be in a poor place.

Have a great day, Tay.

Full-time earnings in Australia averaged A$78,832 a year in the second quarter of 2016. (Seasonally adjusted wages – Bureau of Statistics.) If overtime and bonuses are included, average Australian earnings were A$81,947 per annum.

That 78k would be considered middle class in Australia,

I lived in New Jersey till 2000, even then 46,000 was poor not middle class, cant imagine how can someone live on 46000 today in New Jersey

I thought New York state would at least be in the top 10. NYC is one of the financial capital of the world after all.
Maybe the inequality is high which pulled down the median; the average might be higher.

Average is different from median though. It's usually lower.

.

There’s twenty million people in NY. A financial company that has $20 Billion under management may have a few hundred employees. The ones with $500 Billion a few thousand. Over a $Trillion maybe over 10,000.

i live in an area much like New York i guess, or maybe North Dakota.. {37-thousand US Dollar per year}
i don't know if these are after-tax income figures, but i make about 1100 euros a month at the moment, i have 100 euros per week (US dollars well could be the 'New York' equivalent { the city i live in is a touristy city after all }) to spend on things like food and tobacco and going out (which really is not a whole lot in my humble opinion).

I'm not actually poor for my region, but i'm certainly below middle class in my current income level.
I have good hopes that'll change though, i'm working on a very promising software product entirely written by me.

you know, i'm actually fine with that, believe it or not? anyone can be a succesful artist / novelist / engineer / banker / {other professions that make big bucks}, all studied towards from a near-poverty level, and then a fairly fast progression with no problems of over-spending or giving-away-too-much towards real riches.

You can make $50K and not be poor or $200K and be poor.
It can simply revolve around lifestyle. If you want to blow your money on stupid stuff you can easily be poor. There's no shortage of things to do to put yourself in the poorhouse.

Some people scream it's too hard to make ends meet. Meanwhile they are paying off 2 $50K car loans, spend $250/mo on cable tv, blow $100's a month going to basketball games, etc. The problem is many poor people don't know what is actually poor.

Some people define poor as those needing to work for a paycheck. :D

Upper bound of middle class in 116K in WA? That does not sound right! WA has many many very prosperous areas. I don't think you can even live in Seattle for any salary less than 110K. Something does not add up, even though WA has no state-tax.

Agree with it. Just check rents in Seattle and Redmond area. One need at least 24K for a decent apartment to live with family.

I'm pretty sure that unless you live in some poor town in the middle of nowhere everybody should have access to drinkable water, indoor plumbing, and electricity.

But NYC alone has 8 million people. It's attracts the wealthy and talented from all over America so I thought it would at least be in the top 10.

I guess for populations above 1 mil, the median figure can't really be skewed and really depends on the average man on the street. I've read that somewhere before.

Singapore: S$8,846 per month in 2016

1USD=1.35SGD

Therefore 2016 Annual Median Household Income From Work in USD
=8,846 x 12 / 1.35
=$78,876

This doesn't tell the full story since many people who work in NYC don't actually live there.
