A helicopter crashed into a house on the outskirts of the Afghan capital, Kabul, on Friday, killing five Turkish soldiers on board, a senior Afghan police official told Reuters.

The crash came amid growing unease among NATO partner countries about the increasingly unpopular and costly war as most foreign combat troops set to leave Afghanistan by the end of 2014.

"The helicopter crashed into a house in Bagrami district of Kabul due to technical problems and policemen have taken out five bodies who are Turkish nationals," the officer said.

There was no immediate comment on the crash from NATO or from Turkey, which has more than 1,800 soldiers serving in Afghanistan, most of them around the capital.

Unlike other European members of the NATO-led coalition, Turkey's mission is limited to patrols and its soldiers do not take part in combat operations.

In January, six U.S. Marines were killed in a helicopter crash in southern Afghanistan, which followed the death of 30 American personnel, including 22 Navy SEAL commandos, in eastern Afghanistan in August last year.

wtf were they doing in a helicopter over kabul! take a land vehicle, whether it was a technical fault or not, this stunt is going to cost the TSK image very dearly.

It already cost 10 lives!

Turkish Armed Forces is now saying 12 Turkish soldiers and 4 Afgan civilians... technical problem not an attack!!!

This war is going nowhere. Ten years have passed by and not a single objective met. The pressure is piling to end the war. To add more misery, the Americans are now willing to negotiate with the Taliban. Not to mention, other side effects such as the huge economic losses which the Americans have suffered as a consequence. Even the most ferocious neocons are now beginning to realize that this is another Vietnam in the making.

That's not the issue, Turkey is part of NATO, but does only peacekeeping and training duty. We don't participate in hunting down taliban or anything of the sort. So what was the damn reason for flying a helicopter over civilian housing areas, that's what I want to know.

Turkey has a better standing than anyone in Afghanistan, but this kind of idiotic accidents might change that, especially if civilians are among the casualties.

Nobody will chant death to invaders in this thread.lol

Why Not? DEATH TO THE INVADERS and their ALLIES (all of them, including UAE, TURKEY, ANA etc). Go save your own country first (kurdistan), then meddle with afghanistan!
