Has China edged India for strategic advantage?

.
Sometimes I feel we are more Indian than you are. Just look at our politicians. :D

Take a look. I got really confused....is this lighting of 'diya' a Sri Lankan thing (the company), or have we reverted to this Indian tradition (puja) now??

I have nothing against Hindus/Buddhists following their traditions, but why can't things be just professional and smart in a Bangladeshi manner...instead of kowtowing to another culture? This 'chetona' guy is giving Islamists another reason for a terror attack. MORON.....

Member of Parliament (MP) Asaduzzaman Noor inaugurates the flagship store in the city while Crishantha de Silva, Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Dhaka, graces the event as a special guest

For the first time in Bangladesh, all world’s famous genuine spectacles and sunglass brands of the world are made available in one place at Bangladesh Eye Hospital Institute vision care flagship store.

Member of Parliament (MP) Asaduzzaman Noor inaugurated the flagship store in the capital while Crishantha de Silva, Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Dhaka, graced the event as a special guest.

Former captain of Bangladesh’s National cricket team and Director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board Akram Khan as well as Athar Ali Khan, former national cricket team member and international commentator were present, among others, at the event.

BEHI Vision Care was established in partnership with Sri Lanka’s number one eye care provider Vision Care and Bangladesh's best and most trusted eye care hospital, Bangladesh Eye Hospital.

The store is situated on the ground floor of Suvastu Suraiya Trade Center in 57, Kemal Ataturk Avenue, Banani, Dhaka.

A very wise, sanguine thing to say. Empathy with terrorism...which is an unforgivable cruel action. Well done. Truly, you are such a beacon of high level liberal thought that you posture about elsewhere.

Don't engage in anything outside some perceived envelope of culture...because it can justify a terror attack in the end. You just type this with so much crystal polished thinking clearly.

@Joe Shearer @Neptune_ @bluesky @Mage @Al-Ansar @VCheng @M. Sarmad @Valar.

By that logic tons of terror attacks should happen on immigrants in western countries where they openly celebrate their cultural/religious festivals while many local whites also take part outta respect which these same people brag about later on.

If Hasina tries to ditch India repercussions would be massive for BD is a vital part and an extension of India's security and economic arrangements, and it's rising exponentially now that Afganistan is gone. I am pretty sure Hasina knows it too well. There's no free lunch...

LOL @Tokhme khar ...gulen afghan dreamz.

This is the single most important paragraph in this article which is from a career Bangladeshi diplomat.

Also - "As for New Delhi, it will be dealing for the first time with an AL-led government that may no longer be ready to do as it wants with no questions asked."

Money talks and Bullsh*t walks, as I always say....

The people are still culturally close - but the 'expected' hegemony of the Indian govt. (in New Delhi) will remain an expectation....

Our trade figures with China have by now exceeded that with India. Sign of the times.

It would be interesting to see what happens if Congress returns to power in Delhi. If Hasina is smart, she would utilize her favorable position with Congress to secure concessions for Bangladesh in different bilateral deals (Teesta for example), at the same time, enhancing the strategic relations with China.

The main gist of the article is that the 2018 elections have shown Hasina is not that dependent on India anymore as she was earlier. Hence, there would be lesser need to satisfy Indian wishes. Loss of Afghanistan in fact increases her bargaining power with India.

Forget Teesta ,not in congress previous regime nor in this bjp regime ,no deal will be signed ,india has invested a lot in hydroelectric power in teesta and west bengal has different attitude to it ,govt won't betray it's citizens for a foreign entity as far as hasina is concerned ,she has not done anything pro india to be getting the support she got in 2014,in 2014 all of the western countries and un were not recognizing the election ,india was only the ally at that time ,but hasina payed it well by signing BRI hence the neutral position was just a natural thing after that.

I think you are discounting the economical uplift and the rise of China equation too much.

If we let the Chinese build a submarine base in one of our ports then we will see where Indian leverage goes. Half the present BJP Rajya Sabha members will soil themselves AGAIN, like they did when we got our own subs...

Poor guy, you sure must have cried a lot when those rohingya came streaming in and China said "open wider" when you went crying to them.

You get passed around for everyone to have their little fun with.

Lighting of the oil lamp on special occasions is a Sinhalese custom, The company is Sri Lankan not Bangladeshi govt owned, The Minister is a special guest not the owner, It's like cutting a ribbon.. So why is Mr. CGI loosing his marbles over this ?

There are plenty of examples world over, When foreign investments are done they try to follow customs from the country of origin, Especially Asians

India doesn't have really have any leverage over Bangladesh ,general exaggeration of India's role and leverage is not good ,you were giving the Chittagong port to chinese , I think you should try to renew the deal ,chinese would be appreciative of you after you abadoned the deal half way.

So why is Mr. CGI loosing his marbles over this ?

Because ultimately he has little faith in his own people to be tolerant enough to handle stuff like this apparently.

Speaks more to him rather than the people though.

The basic idea of this article is that India is losing its hold on Sheikh Hasina's govt.

Of the 47 cabinet ministers in the past govt., 27 (mostly India-friendly) ministers were dropped and replaced in the present cabinet with new more technocrat faces. New Delhi sees this as a signal that Hasina's govt. is not so India-leaning anymore.

India never had the hold on AL contrary to popular beliefs. Hasina needs India to get legitimacy in International arena. She seems to have her ways with India. She has Indias backing, building and buying warships, purchasing 2 submarines, and the $35 billion worth of investments from China. Only thing she gave is buying F7s and Yaks instead of capable 4G warplanes.
Every now and then she will say a few things about Pakistan which gets PDF Pakistani folks fuming and the Indian folks all gaga. Its a game she is playing and she is quite good at it.

Very well explained. I hope our people will know the reality soon.
