Today we bid farewell to the past year and usher in the new, but it's not easy to erase the vestige of the record snow disaster caused by La Nina.
La Nina has ramped in North America,south-central part of China,North and South Europe, and Central Asia. In Hunan,south-central province of China, climate was generally mild with only light snows ornamenting winter days unfrequently, but strong snow storms has turn it into a terrible frozen world since the early begining of 2008. electricity was extensively interrupted and airports, highways, railways all out of order. disaster affected people surpassed 70 million in 14 provinces and over 1.8 million travlers were blocked on their way home, connecting their waiting folks in unbounded anxiousness.11 wiremen gave their lives to resume the power.
The whole country was fighting with the disaster, special rescue teams, military troops and policemen were sent to every accident scene, volunteers collected and delivered all kinds of donations over to stuck passengers at railway stations when it was still raining and cold.
by now, some 600,000 railway passengers has finally set out homeward from Guangzhou, while the rest several thousands decided to stay for a Spring Festival away from hometown.
highway resumed
We are not stricken down by the unprecedented disaster, but indeed it has sounded the loudest alarm for environment protection.
"The sun also rises". the disaster will pass as we wave farewell to the past year, we still believe in a golden year of 2008 and always expect a brighter and flourishing future for China.
Let the never-interrupted Chinese civilization and traditional belief bless all.
Happy New Year!
Best wishes to everyone.
