Half of Reactors Under Construction Are in China
Half the reactors under construction in the world are in China. The Chinese already have 26 reactors and are building 27 more. They hope to overtake the U.S. and its 98 reactors by 2030. The Chinese have reverse-engineered the Westinghouse AP1000 and are building their own version. They hope to market it abroad eventually as well and have already entered an agreement with Great Britain to build at Hinckley Point. Russia is also building at home but is making a more aggressive effort to sell its technology abroad. It has agreements to build reactors in India, Turkey, Argentina and several other countries. Korea has a contract to build five reactors in the United Arab Emirates. The U.S. is building four reactors at home but is not making any effort to sell abroad.
