A millionaire splashed out a staggering Dhs500,000 on a bottle of Champagne during a night out at a Dubai club.

The Saudi Arabian and his friends guzzled the bubbly at the swanky Cavalli Club Restaurant and Lounge in the early hours of Saturday after ordering the special bottle of Cristal – one of just three believed to be available worldwide.

The venue’s general manager, David Lescarret, said the other two wallet-busting bottles are on sale at nightclubs in New York and London – but have yet to be sold. Frenchman Lescarret, 32, was even fortunate enough to be given a sip of the bubbly by the kindhearted Saudi, who shared the bottle with his table of about 25 friends.

The bottle came from a batch made in 1990 in Champagne, France. Realising they had a special vintage on their hands, Cristal had originally kept the bubbly for a Millenium bash – and now, after the Dubai splurge, just two bottles remain.

Lescarret said the Saudi was a “well-educated gentleman” in his 40s who spoke several languages and ordered the bottle in French.

Admitting he’s not normally a fan of Cristal, Lescarret said he could tell that the vintage was something special, adding: “I believe the price reflected the taste – it tasted amazing.”

The Saudi spent the entire night at Cavalli, tucking into a luxurious dinner before accompanying his friends for drinks at an exclusive table. Lescarret refused to divulge whether the total spend at Cavalli broke the million-dirham barrier – but admitted: “It was very high.” :woot:

The big-spending clubber, who was travelling through Dubai, bought the Champagne about 1am and left Cavalli at 3am when the club lights went up. Lescarret added: “We are delighted. With it being the Dubai World Cup, it was a very good weekend for us.”

The champers was sourced from Christie’s auction house in London, costing a Dhs340,000 after taxes. Next on Lescarret’s exclusive shopping list is a 30l bottle of Armand de Brignac Champagne – even more expensive than the bubbly he just sold.

Lescarret joked: “I’ll need to get it, I have nothing else to sell!”

this guy must be a zillionaire ... never heard billionaires spending that kind of of money on a bottle of champagne

Friend of mine claims he was in a Vegas casino and saw a blackjack table in the corner, all cordoned off. He asked one of the attendants how come the $5 chips on that table were a different color, and was told each chip was worth $5,000.

He claims the chips on that table were stacked just as high as at any other ordinary table.

little bit off topic, but Im confused......

For the 2nd time today, this thread and another one regarding Pakistani passport travel (SG, BKK etc..) both the guys talk about consumption of liquor. Isn't it haraam and banned in Islam?
Especially for a person from KSA, can any member from KSA throw some light on this?

offcourse and all of that money will be donated to uplift the suffering of Muslims world wide...kind heated gentleman he was..Money in the hands of lunatics could be a dangerous thing. Prophet SAW said cursed is a person who produces, sells or drinks alcohol.

Yaar it is disgusting with all the poverty in the world that some should live like that

Anyway can you imagine if it tasted crax what could he say?? lol

He wont say anything because that will make him look like an @ss and his friends would die laughing at him. It is beyond doubt that it did taste like crap...Rich and famous have a habbit of talking crap and being uncalled PR specialist.

How many people agree that this is another white man trick to fool the arabs and loot the wealth by massaging their egos. Something they have an entire media arm dedicated for.
