Safran Helicopter Engines and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will jointly establish a new company in India to develop helicopter engines here. HAL CMD R Madhavan and Safran Helicopter Engines CEO Franck Saudo on Friday signed an MoU in the presence of Safran Global CEO Olivier Andriès. The new company’s main objectives will be to meet the requirements of HAL and Indian defence ministry’s future helicopters, including the future 13-ton IMRH (Indian Multi Role Helicopter).

The 3D rendering of the helicopter looks decent.

Good for India.

Pakistan failed to get into joint ventures with Turkey, instead buying off the self.

Indian Dhruv program was quite successful with about 300 already in service, hopefully India will be self reliant in rotary aircraft requirement in near future. Even if these manages to only replace Mi-17s, there is a requirement for 3-400 helicopters.

Dhruv, LUH, LCH, IMRH.....except a heavy class helicopter, India is doing fine in helicopter thingy on its own.

We have roughly 230 Mi-17s in services and about 100 of them would need to be replaced in next 10 years or so and eventually all of them with Indigenous IMRH.

For heavy lift, we are better off just inducting Chinooks.
