"Hair loss" has become a buzzword for young people in China as a way to show the stress they experience in daily lives, according to a recent survey by the China Youth Daily.

In the survey covering 1,901 people aged between 18 to 35, about 64 percent of the young people said they would describe themselves as "nearly going bald" to others when feeling stressed.

"Many people around me, including most of my roommates, worry about hair loss," said a college student in Beijing.

Yet she believes that many young people do not actually suffer from baldness, instead, they use the words as a way to make a joke out of their stressful lives.

The student echoes the majority of those surveyed, as over 67 percent of the people said the buzzword was used in an attempt to relieve anxiety.

"Such jokes are made by many young people born in the 1990s who are aware of the 'crisis' that they are getting closer to middle age," said a master's candidate from southwest China's Sichuan Province.

However, about 35 percent of those surveyed believed hair loss is occurring at a younger age.

Over 60 percent of the young people agreed that those involved in certain professions, such as law and computer science, could be more vulnerable to hair loss.

Balding is a problem in India's newer generation as well.

Many young people in the 20s and 30s are facing receding hairlines. High stress, poor diet, change in behaviour with the instant gratification mentality and build-up of excess competition leading to more worrying (not to mention poor quality water in some cases) has been causing a lot of baldness in the younger generation.

In my state, it is pretty less since we don't bald so easily; but in rest of India, baldness is increasing at an alarming stage.

Pakistan hair transplants are a big thing. Men have it done a lot

Looks like excessive competition, stress, changing food habits, lack of exercise and other factors are affecting all Asian countries.

We need to ban unhealthy food chains.

Well havent you seen UFO based movies, all the aliens who seem to be super intelligent compared to us are always bald, so going bald shows that you are getting intelligent and getting futuristic, dont worry :p::p::p::p:

That's I definitely agree with. When I visit university stores in many Asian countries, I see no effective control over unhealthy stuff, drinks and food.

In fact, in Mainland, I have seen university stores selling cigarettes (same in Taiwan region, but, more concealed. In Mainland, it is they are well-displayed).

:lol::enjoy:

It's just a self-deprecating joke among the Chinese. East Asians usually do not bald at such an early age.

Yes, the original article also mentions it. I did not have any really bald PhD classmates; neither were my professors.

Only I had a classmate from Singapore, and he was having some baldness from the front.

I shave my hair off every month with hair clipper what cost me only 20€ four years ago, but If I went to barber every month it would cost me 25€ per visit so I save a lot of money.

For my friend hair is important so he uses those hair growth products (50-80€ each month + barber costs) what have all sorts side effects from obesity to other problems.

You shave bald?

My barber cost only SGD3 every month, and it's pretty decent.

Plenty of cheap haircuts in Singapore.
