what is the point of assembly plant only. It should be manufactured in Pakistan

Laptop is no longer a mind-blowing technology..

"labled",“Assembles in Pakistan”
I hope they do not hire someone like this newspaper's editor.

IMO it should have been manufacturing and that too at gwadar.....

assembling is still acceptable....but nonetheless something is better than nothing :)

its pretty unbeleivale this news..when we already see that PAC did a joint venture with some chinese company and already has a product that noone is buying. govt should have supported that project rather than bringing a new company.
if they do want to bring someone new, they should be asked to put assembly plant via a joint venture with local firm

Well we had the PC Tablet by Kamra what is wrong with that ?
Just needs a mini keyboard idea for students

Thats a good step. People complaining here to manufacture these Laptops must know you have to invest in R&D before you manufacture a silicon chip, for sure Pakistan does not have the Capability to produce these chips in mass numbers, this project should me considered as a step forward.

what PAC did was small joint venture with a chinese firm. And I assume PAC part was to assemble and design the product and the chinese firm was providing the Hardware for the tablet. There are millions and billions of transistor on a chip and to manufacture them u need to have a proper R&D facilities which Pakistan actually doesn't have.

Haier makes laptops o_O
Yeah even I am confused.

PAC also produced netbooks(laptops) in addition to tablets

here haier will be doing everything, in PAC is case it was involved atleast a little. we should follow that model rather than giving everything to foreign firm which might leave once the order of 100,000 is completed

How could haier leave when they are the one to invest in Pakistan IT sector. Haier will be the comoany to buy and operate this plant and they will give locals a preference. Its a good step forward at least we are on the right track.

setting an assembly palnt doesnt require any large investment at all...its production plant that require a little investment whihc haier i am pretty sure doesnt intend to do so.
how do you think PAC put an assembly plant had it required so much money, they havnet even sold anything yet or in future.
assembly is very very cheap u get all parts imported thats what haeir will do it will earn billions and once the scheme ends it will pick up and leave
