Hafiz Saeed visited Pakistani outpost days before Poonch ambush : North, News - India Today
Just a couple of days before the daring attack on the Indian Army's patrol team in Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir, Lashkar-e-Tayyaba (LeT) chief Hafiz Saeed had visited the Line of Control (LoC) in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (***), Military Intelligence sources told Headlines Today on Wednesday.
Sources said the LeT chief, and mastermind of several terror attacks, had visited Pakistani forces' Gurund post opposite Poonch on August 3 and met soldiers of the Border Action Team (BAT), which is said to have carried out the ambush in which five Indian Army personnel were killed.
Sources said Saeed met soldiers from either the 801 or 802 Mujahid Battalion and several Lashkar commanders, including Tariq Mohammed Anwar, who headed the operation.
Sources also said that after Saeed's visit, Pak army soldiers most likely carried out a reconnaissance mission on the intervening night of August 4 and 5. Simultaneously, Pakistani troops provided cover fire opposite Sawjian forest in Poonch.
The August 6 ambush thus seems to have many similarities with the January 8 attack wherein two Indian soldiers had been killed in Mendhar sector.
According to intelligence sources, in both operations LeT terrorists and Pak Army regulars were involved.
Moreover, prior to both the attacks, which took place well inside the Indian territory, Saeed visited the area to mobilise Pakistani troops and terrorists.
