PESHAWAR: Following massive airstrikes by Pakistani jet fighters in North Waziristan last night, Taliban militants met at an undisclosed location on Wednesday to reconsider a non-aggression treaty with the government.

A spokesman for Taliban commander Hafiz Gul Bahadur, who leads hundreds of fighters in the area, condemned the airstrikes that, according to Pakistani military officials, killed at least 60 militants and injured 30 others last night.

Ahmadullah Ahmadi said the group “cannot remain silent over bombardment on people,” calling it a clear atrocity on the civilians.

He said that the Shura (council) has convened this important meeting to assess the situation and hinted that the peace accord with the government might get revoked.

The spokesman warned that the government would be responsible for any destruction in case it did not stop the military offensive.

Pakistani warplanes and helicopters pounded militant hideouts in Mir Ali and Miramshah near the Afghan border, killing 60 fighters.

The Pakistan Army in a statement said “60 hard-core terrorists” including “important commanders and foreigners” were killed in the strikes, without providing further details, and that another 30 were wounded.

Intelligence reports and other investigations confirmed the linkage of some recent terrorist acts across the country with militants targeted in the strikes, said the ISPR statement.

One resident, who identified himself as Saeedullah Khan, said the army had also been firing artillery rounds since early morning.

Another resident, Inamullah, said the airstrikes destroyed several homes and nearby shops in Mir Ali's bazaar, causing civilian casualties.

The claims by the army and residents could not be independently verified. The lawless tribal area is off-limits to journalists.

Clash leaves 11 militants, four security personnel dead in N Waziristan
In a fresh clash between Pakistani security forces and Taliban militants, at least 11 terrorists were killed in Mir Ali of North Waziristan, said an ISPR spokesman on Wednesday.

Four security forces personnel including an officer were also killed in the clash, he added.

Waziristan is part of Pakistan's tribal region, which is home to Taliban and al Qaeda-linked foreign militants who have killed thousands of people.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been pursuing a policy of negotiation with the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) to end the violence, but those efforts have not yet yielded any results.

@Pak-one looks like your wish of PA taking on good and bad taliban at the same time have been completed.

. .
Kill the ones who want to fight Pakistan. Spare the ones who are loyal to Pakistan.

Taliban are loyal to no one, sooner or later they will fight. This so called peace treaty was bound to fail, and because of it hundreds of Waziristan kids are effected by polio.

these pigs (tailban) live in 17th century .welcome to era of general raheel he will fcuk gul bahader(buzdul). terrorist will b deal with iron hand in their @ss

@shan gul bahadur has made similar threats before, in response to which pak army used to halt attacks, any further strikes. Just few months ago, on december 2013, gul bahadur threatened of breaking agreement if curfew, after mirali massacre, is not lifted. Within hours of threat, curfew was lifted. Let see how pak army responds to this one. In my opinion they will take a break of a week or two, when gul bahadur cools down, then they will drop bombs again. Bahadur only make such threats when casaulties exceed 70, so PAF will avoid dropping too many bombs.
He is a unmanageable guy and in the begining pak army tried to get rid of him through drones but he missed the attempts.

Groups who want peace should throw down their weapons & should unconditionally surrender to Pakistan.

How can we confirm there is no civilian death....
Saying that only militant died is a pure lie...

Civilians who live and support TTP are just much terrorists as others.

I live in Karachi there are more terrorist here so we should start bombing it??? The building in which I live there are also MQM thugs also living so should I leave Karachi??
Because we don't get dollar and F-16 for operation in Karachi which is greater threat...

Karachi isnt gonna go anywhere. First you cut off the supply lines. Which is tribal areas. Then you take care of the inner problems. Btw if Karachi walas themselves support MQM and the TTP and PPP types then who are you to cry when they show their true identities.

Yes civilians that live with the terrorists out of free will plus the families of terrorists are all legitimate targets. Young and old. Male or Female. Support them, get bombed.

Simple.

i dont think they will break this peace agreement because they want power in afghanistan with out backing of haqqani talibs gul bahadur fighters are nothing so its only a threat to gain local support of the tribal people

Those civilians were harboring and feeding those terrorists, and more importantly those civilians have giving them the ground from where these terrorists prepare and launch attacks deep inside the country.

Who told them to give their bed rooms to these TTP pigs?

If thats the logic then simple solution would be to nuke entire waziristan, why wasting resources and soldiers on them?

Not until the military steamroller has passed over Waziristan from end to end
will there be peace,” wrote Lord Curzon
