TFB has written a lot about the German manufacturer C.G. Haenel lately, but the dust seems to have settled a little. First, they won the tender for Germany’s next army weapon, then they didn’t. It’s all quite confusing even for those who are trying to keep up on a daily basis, but in this article, we’re going to forget all about that and focus on one of their new products. After all, the company is probably most known as a supplier of the G29 sniper rifle for the German Army. It’s called the Haenel RS9 and chambered in .338 Lapua Magnum.
Haenel CR6.5 with Steiner riflescope and Aimpoint Micro secondary red dot. By the looks of it the mount should be mounted much further forward for it to work well. There’s probably no need for a cantilever mount either, but it’s not my rifle.
Now the company has released the Haenel CR6.5. Together with their other options, it means that they have semi-automatic rifles available in four calibers; .223 Remington, .300 Blackout, 6.5 Creedmoor and .308 Winchester in the AR15 and AR10 packages.
The CR6.5 is a semi-automatic long-range rifle, and I’m sure people in the USA (including some early adopters elsewhere) are going to wonder what took them so long? Just bear in mind the amount of new calibers that are released each year, but the 6.5 Creedmoor is actually settling in Europe as well and this rifle is another proof.
Below you can find their product description:
CR 6.5
Long Range: The Haenel CR6.5 uses the calibre 6.5 Creedmoor, a fast medium calibre with a stretched trajectory, which has its justification both in hunting and sport. It is used for far, precise long-range shots – now also from the CR semi-automatic.
> CALIBER: 6,5 Creedmoor
> LENGTH: 20“ – 1080mm / 996mm
> BUTTSTOCK: modified M4-boost-buttstock, adjustable length in 6 stages
> FLASH SUPPRESSOR: A2 standard with QD suppressor mount
> BARREL LENGTH/TWIST: 20“ / 508mm – 8“
> HANDGUARD: Hand guard with two NAR and two KeyMod rails, removable without tools
> WEIGHT: 20“ – approx. 4,6 kg
> TRIGGER: Single stage trigger 28–35N, Pressure point trigger (Two stage trigger) 17–20N
> MAGAZINE CAPACITY: 10 rounds
> SAFETY: ambidextrous safety lever, 0°/60°
> SIGHT: foldable mechanical sight
> COLOURS: black
You can find C.G. Haenel’s product page here. The price I have seen is quoted around €3,300, which is almost $4,000.
Also, do not miss the German GunWorks’ exceptional G29 VIPER Project – Haenel RS9 in .338 LM, an incredible project with several hundred if not thousands of working hours behind it. It deserves a lot more attention.
