ISLAMABAD: The Senate was informed on Friday that Gwadar port will be fully operational by 2017 and first phase of the port has been completed and its three berths are currently functional.
Minister for Ports and Shipping Kamran Michael told the House the government has approved nine projects for development of Gwadar Port at a cost of $17 million.
He said that 2,281 acres of land will soon be provided to a Chinese company on lease for development of free trade zone in Gwadar. This zone will include construction of container yards, warehouses, container freight stations and light industrial units.
Minister of State for Education Balighur Rehman said standard of higher education has improved significantly over the years due to innovative policies and reforms undertaken by the government and that there is consensus to keep the Higher Education Commission a federal subject to promote quality education at higher levels.
He said this year seven universities of Pakistan ranked amongst the top three hundred Asian universities against five universities last year.
Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Riaz Hussain Pirzada said milk production in the country is growing by 2.7 percent per annum. Currently the annual production of milk stands at 51 million tons.
