Gujarat polls: Irfan Pathan in support of Narendra Modi - The Times of India
VADODARA: Cricketer Irfan Pathan on Wednesday shared the stage with Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi in BJP's campaign rally at Kheda on Wednesday.
Irfan turned up at the rally that was organized for the second phase of polling in the state.
The 28-year-old all-rounder, Irfan, who belongs to Vadodara and has been forced out of cricketing action by an injury, waved at the crowd, who had come to listen Modi's speech.
Modi in turn thanked Irfan for his presence at the venue. He, though, didn't give any speech or statement.
Modi has been trying to appease minority community voters in the state ahead of the polls.
In September 2011, Modi had launched Sadbhavna Mission to peace and amity and to appease minority community voters. However, the BJP has not fielded any Muslim candidate in the assembly polls this year.
Irfan's presence at the venue has surprised many. The cricketer has been out of action since last month when he suffered injury on his leg during a Ranji game. He though keeps visiting Motibaug cricket ground to talk with the young Baroda players. Irfan had also extended support to Modi during the Sadbhavna meet in the city last year as he greeted the CM on stage along with other cricketers. TOI tried to contact Irfan but he didn't respond to phone calls and text messages
ps. what happened to the Islamic caliphate ?
