Srinagar: Militants hurled a grenade at an Indian army bunker in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district injuring at least three troopers while causing damage to five vehicles including an armoured army vehicle.
Police sources told CNS that the Army bunker guarding the office of Town Commander of 41 Rashtriya Rifles on Hyhama road came under grenade attack that left at least three soldiers wounded. SP Kupwara Ajaz Ahmed Bhat said that it was a low intensity explosion and the all the injured soldiers are stable. “Four civilian vehicles and an Army armoured vehicle suffered minor damages,” he said.
Shortly after the grenade attack the police and the army cordoned off the area around the bunker and launched a search operation to nab the suspected militants.
Meanwhile, claiming the responsibility of the attack, militant outfit Tehreek-ul-Mujhadeen said at least four Indian army men were killed and the Town Commander was wounded in the attack. In a statement to CNS, the outfit claimed that some army vehicles caught fire and the army press chopper into service to lift the seriously injured soldiers to the hospital.
The outfit also claimed that its squad also attacked a CRPF party near Habbakadal bridge in old Srinagar city during the night of Tuesday and Wednesday. The claim of the militant outfit was refuted by Police. Station House Officer Kralkhud Police Station told CNS that no such incident occurred in Habbakadal. (CNS)
