NEW DELHI: In one of its biggest recruitment drives, government has announced hiring of over 62,000 young men and women as constables in central paramilitary and police organisations this year.

The candidates will be hired by central forces like CRPF, BSF, ITBP, SSB, CISF, NIA and SSF as the Union Home Ministry launched the mega-drive of hiring workforce for these security organisations in the last about five years.

Apart from reservation for SC/ST and OBC candidates, relaxation of applicable age has been made for the children and dependents of the victims of 2002 Gujarat riots and 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

"This is one of the largest recruitment drives that is being held by the central government for hiring in paramilitary and other allied forces. The large-scale hiring is being conducted keeping in view an increasing role of these forces and growth in number of battalions sanctioned to these forces in the recent past," a senior Home Ministry officer said.

The examination in this context is being done by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) on the directions of the Union Home Ministry, the official said.

Out of the total 62,390 posts on offer, about 16 per cent or a total of 8,533 are reserved for women candidates.

The most number of vacancies are desired in country's largest paramilitary-- Central Reserve Police Force-- at 24,588 followed by Border Security Force at 22,517.

A dedicated force of constabulary is also being recruited this time for the premier National Investigation Agency (NIA) which has 86 vacancies.

The SSC will hold a three-tier examination for these posts with the stages being physical tests, written efficiency and medical tests. Candidates, who have passed Class X and are between 18-23 years of age, are eligible.

The expected salary for those hired would be around Rs 20,200 apart from other salary benefits that the government extends to all the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).

"The final recruitments will be done by October this year and it is expected that those hired would be sent for training to the respective forces by early next year," the officer said.

Apart from the two large forces of CRPF and BSF, the Central Industrial Security Force will hire 5,000 personnel, Sashastra Seema Bal has 6,224 vacancies, Indo-Tibetan Border Police at 3,101, Assam Rifles 600 personnel and the Secretariat Security Force has 274 vacancies.

All these forces, under the command of the Union Home Ministry, are mandated with rendering a variety of internal security duties in the country including border guarding, conducting anti-Naxal and counter-insurgency operations and securing vital assets and persons.

R e na re sob miliye 63,000 recruitment hobe.Btw within the next one year the CAPFs will rise to over a million personnel but we will need another 300,000 fresh recruitment to maintain law and order throughout the country withing the next 5 years.

Can't say I've heard of the SSF, perhaps the mean the SSB?

Either way, hiring of more officers is a good thing BUT only if they are trained correctly and, as importantly, equipped properly. I hope the thinking isn't simply about quantity over quality. This is 2015, these guys need to be well trained and equipped law enforcement officers not simply lathi wielding fellows.

Most could be merged into 2 forces focusing on internal security and border security and then within that force have specialised wings (infrastructure security, jungle warfare, anti-narcotics, counter insurgency etc etc) stop this needless and wasteful duplication of services. In India quantity is always preferred over quality at least when it comes to the CAPFs because of the size of our country and even then we are short of at least 300,000 trained men and women and more than 500,000 trained policemen at this moment but the situation is changing slowly but surely over the last couple of years.Hopefully the Central Govt. will provide more funds this time for the modernization process of the CAPFs.

No doubt India needs more numbers of security personnel BUT the forces should be well trained and equipped in parallel. A well equippe/trained officer will be as effective as 2/3 poorly trained/equipped officers.

No doubt India needs more numbers of security personnel BUT the forces should be well trained and equipped in parallel. A well equippe/trained officer will be as effective as 2/3 poorly trained/equipped officers.

Well this is the basic problem of the Indian security agencies.They always jump for the quantity factor completely ignoring the quality one.Personally i think a single trained COBRA personnel is far more effective than 6-7 regular CRPF personnel,hence the CRPF authorities should rather stop recruiting more and more personnel and instead train and equip the regular personnel in the lines of the COBRA training regime.I think it's time for the MHA to merge all the border units into the BSF and CISF with the CRPF,this will solve a lot of existing problems.

Hi Mike, Secretariat Security Force or SSF is a separate force which was raised to provide security to the Cabinet Secretariat, currently most of the Secretariat protection is under CISF, ITBP or SSB and in sensitive area Secretariat was under CRPF. Earlier SSF has men on deputation from CAPFs, but now with increasing demands, MHA is now looking for direct recruitment.

For info, any such important premise has security protocol, which states- "Multiple security layer of different agencies". For eg.- J&K CM has his PSO and then CPT of ITBP, then SOG, then CRPF, then finally local police. Same way Secretariat's has multiple layer of protection and SSF is one of them.
