GWADAR - The federal government is working on a plan to equip ports with modern facilities. According to officials of Ministry of Ports and Shipping an IT-based database system will be installed and made functional within the next month at all the ports. This will help track the movement of containers and status of custom duty. They said the ship breaking industry is being moved to Port Qasim with one hundred and seventy acres of land earmarked and development work planned for the purpose. About three thousand industries are being shifted to Port Qasim. According to officials an uninterrupted electric supply will be ensured there for which five hundred megawatt of electricity will be produced through a coal plant. The British government will also help in producing another 600 megawatt with solid waste at Karachi Port. The officials also said that Gwadar Port is expected to become fully operational in the next five to six months. Almost sixty percent work on linking roads has been completed.
