ISLAMABAD:

The government is ‘keen’ to bring back YouTube to the people, State Minister for Education Baleeghur Rehman said on Tuesday.

Acknowledging that a large repository of educational materials are available on the popular video-sharing website, which has been inaccessible in Pakistan since September 2012, the minister said that the government was serious in trying to restore access to the website.

The minister was addressing a town hall session on Media Information Literacy, organised by media development organisation Agahi, in collaboration with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

Then bring it back.
I cant run my channel on proxies all the time you know.... f***ing insolent bastards.
The way the article is written it is as though Youtube died and the illiterate govt is trying to revive it

.
The government should focus on IT & technology to cope with such issues which have caused to ban the YouTube such as; hiring some expert software engineer to block such content which hurts Muslim sentiments.

But have they removed the video that caused this or atleast have blocked it in muslim countries?

No idea.. .If not then it should be blocked at least if they cannot remove it.

They won't remove it, and this video can be found just as easily elsewhere, why not ban the whole internet every time you see something remotely offensive?

The ban should be lifted it was stupid, unnecessary in the first place.

It would be more appropriate if we do counter attack by blocking such content. They will not prevent from doing it even if we ban the whole internet. Already our nation has very less access to this facility and the entire world has gone online from education to banking, e-commerce and so on. We are already behind as compare to other developing nations. So banning internet is not a right solution at all. As I said, we should promote IT & technology so that such incidents can be handled by replying them in an appropriate manner. We can't afford to live in a stone age anymore.

Exactly, i mean i could search youtube for anythings schematics and walkthroughs on how to build them. Think how this will help our illiterate society. We should unban youtube as soon as possible and ban the ourself.

It is fine to have an opinion why the anger/ sarcasm?

And boycotting is the best silent answer one can give to show disagreement with too much freedom to do any amount of shit!

True it may not be the absolute answer but it can work....Better than violence!

.
Pakistan is the only country where its Banned, I guess.

The video was removed over an year ago.

The ban is pointless. There should be an option for Pakistani Authorities to block specific videos, and there probably already is since some videos on YouTube say ''not available in your country'' and they (YT) already have a ''Regional Filter'' - how hard would it be for them to just use this to filter the content coming into Pakistan?

Or why bother at all? People who want to watch certain things will watch them regardless. I agree with PTA's policy of limiting exposure to explicit content etc but they should not be so 'over-efficient' and ban the entirety of YouTube.
