Govt to launch cable car project from Kumrat valley to Chitral

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government Thursday decided to launch world’s longest and highest cable car project at the famous touristic spot of Kumrat valley in district Upper Dir as part of effort to promote tourism in the area.

The 14 kilometres long proposed Cable Car will connect Kumrat valley to Madaklasht valley of lower Chitral and upon completion will attract 8 million foreign and local tourists to the province.

It will generate maximum employment opportunities and boost economic activities in the province, it was informed and decided in a meeting of tourism department held here with Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan in the chair.

The meeting gave go ahead to the department to carry out detailed feasibility study and engineering design of the project.

Briefing the meeting about the salient feature of the project, it was told that the project would be completed with an estimated cost of the Rs 32 billion adding that the Cable Car will have car parking facilities on both the stations whereas it will have an intermediate station as well with restaurant and other allied facilities.

It was further informed that feasibility study of the proposed project would be completed in five to six months period. “The proposed Cable Car will be installed on international standards.

The meeting was informed that the project is very much environment friendly and feasible on the grounds that no land acquisition process is involved therein.

Directing the concerned authorities to immediately start work on the feasibility and engineering design of the project, the chief minister said that the proposed project was of high importance to boost tourism activities.

He noted that it would generate maximum employment opportunity for the local people by boosting tourism activities.

He termed the promotion of tourism sector as one of the top priority areas of his government and said that as per the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan, the provincial government was taking result oriented steps under a well devised strategy.

He said the steps include exploration of new tourist destinations and construction of road infrastructure in tourist sites to facilitate the easy access of tourists.

Matters related to the restoration and development of famous tourists destination of Shaikh Badin in southern region of the province were also discussed in the meeting.

It was informed that a project to this effect has been reflected in the new year ADP and PC-I of the project has been submitted to Provincial Developmental Working Party for approval.

The meeting also reviewed the preparations and arrangements for holding some of the matches of the upcoming Pakistan Super League Tournament in Peshawar.

The chief minister expressed his satisfaction on the progress made so far to this end and directed the concerned quarters to ensure that all the required arrangements and preparations are completed well in time.

Secretary Tourism Muhammad Abid Majeed, Principal Secretary to CM Shahab Ali Shah, Special Secretary to CM Masood Younas, Managing Director Tourism Corporation Junaid Khan and other relevant authorities attended the meeting.
