Govt to Establish A New Modern Airport Near Faisalabad

Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Railways, Mian Farrukh Habib, has said that Faisalabad needs another airport to meet the needs of the business community.

He said that the government will lay the foundation of a new, modern airport soon, which will be adjacent to Allama Iqbal International City to provide ease traveling and cargo facilities for the local and foreign industrialists.

The parliamentary secretary made this announcement while visiting the camp office of Faisalabad Industrial Estate Development and Management Company (FIEDMC). Habib said that the government will take all the required measures to make FIEDMC more autonomous so that other departments’ interference can be curtailed to the minimum.

He said that establishing a Special Economic Zone in Faisalabad will not only be instrumental in making Pakistan prosperous but also provide 500,000 to 600,000 employment opportunities to the locals along with providing investment opportunities to young and new entrepreneurs

Faisalabad is 3rd largest city in Pak and is often neglected. This is good move.
Faisalabad does have an airport. It was recently renovated. I think it'd be better if it's upgraded with modern bulk cargo complex and handling facilities. Secondly, a dedicated road/rail corridor to connect the airport with the city's industrial units is required to maximise its usage. Lastly, invite other airlines for cargo/freight operations.

I do live in Faisalabad, I visit our airport quite often. Our airport renovation was full of corruption. They said from 20 years that our airports runway will be upgraded. But nothing happened. They installed air bridges and some glossy tiles. It is not called renovation.

Bannu Airport (IATA: BNP, ICAO: OPBN) is situated 6 nm (11 km) west of the city center of Bannu,in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. It is not as large as other airports of Pakistan, as it is built to provide services to the people of Bannu and its adjacent areas. Currently, Pakistan International Airlines does not have any scheduled flights to this airport.
Bannu has been developed with passage of time. But unfortunately Bannu Airport has remained closed due to war on terror.

if there is any city that requires a new airport then its either Karachi (by either reclamation of land near clifton or near hawkbay) or Lahore (near Lake city, Raiwind or EME. The next in line would be Islamabad/pindi... not fsd

Faisalabad is recognised as the centre of the textile industry in Pakistan, contributing to half of Pakistans total textile shipments. Has the worst airport system I think.

Peshawar also need an airport out of city.

No matter how far the airport is built eventually the city expands around it. Karachi airport was built at the outskirts of the city at the time. Now it falls roughly in the middle.

The need is to have a future proof design keeping in mind the need for the next 50-100 years. I know across the world alot of airports have vast tracks of open unused lands within the airport complex that they envision will be used for future runways and terminals.

What happened to the new Peshawar air port? The current one is like a house

If it's in the middle of the city then it should be moved out and the current land converted into a large park, filled with trees and trails.
