Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif - AP/File

ISLAMABAD: Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt on Wednesday called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the Prime Minister's House in the federal capital.

During the meeting, professional matters relating to the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) were discussed.

The premier said that the government will continue to provide funds for increasing the air force's capacity for ensuring security of the air frontier so that it can effectively meet future challenges.

Butt also apprised the premier on various upgradation programs of the air force which will enable them to meet security challenges in the future more effectively.

PM Nawaz appreciated the PAF's role in Operation Zarb-i-Azb and implementation of National Action Plan — which was drafted in the wake of the Peshawar school attack to chalk out a comprehensive strategy to combat terrorism and extremism.

The Pakistan Army launched a comprehensive operation titled Zarb-i-Azb last year against foreign and local terrorists who were hiding in sanctuaries in North Waziristan tribal region, a week after the brazen insurgent attack on the country's busiest airport in Karachi.

Last time Air chief called on PM for Funds, we bought 13 Jordanian F-16's. I think its a hint for any new Purchase. May be they already have made a deal and just 'Cash and Carry'. Most probably it could be F-16's deal again, as Tahir shb was already spoken for it for such more deals and have evaluated many countries F-16's. I hope there will be good news soon. Keeping it secret unless mature it is always good for PAF.

If this is the case then I really want to see F16 Block 60/62 in our inventory. Nothing less.

Not really, our navy is still reliable for defense.
It's under budgeted, and it's fleet is far too underdeveloped. It wouldn't win a single battle, even in defense, against the Indian navy which continues to grow exponentially.

Anyway, this is nothing more than a PR statement. The military budget is already set, with a good chunk going towards the thunder project.
