KARACHI: Sindh government on Thursday decided to ban collective prayers in mosques including Friday prayers in the province till April 05 citing fears of coronavirus pandemic, ARY NEWS reported.

The decision was announced by the provincial spokesman Murtaza Wahab on his Twitter account. He said that the provincial government has taken a big decision placing a ban on collective prayers at the mosques from masses.

“The decision is taken after consulting all religious leaders hailing from different school of thoughts and medical experts,” he said.

“Only five people would be allowed to offer prayers inside the mosques including the permanent staff of the mosque,” he said asking the citizens to obey the decision.

Later, confirming the decision in a video message, Sindh Information Minister Nasir Hussain Shah said that they have placed the ban with a heavy heart and after consultation with all religious leaders.

“We are thankful to them and from now on the masses will perform collective obligatory prayers at home and only three to five people comprising of mosques’ staff will perform the prayers inside mosques,” he said.

Earlier, in the day, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Pir Noor ul Haq Qadri announced that the countrywide mosques would remain open amid coronavirus pandemic with limitations applied to congregation within their premises during five-time prayers and Friday prayer.

The decision was taken after consultation with the clerics during a meeting with President Arif Alvi via video conference, said the minister who added that top religious leaders had assured their complete support for preventive measures announced by the government.

Federal government announced it earlier to limit Namaz to essential people

Media keeps twisting as same was announced by Sindh government

Why is this simple step taking so long?? And even now it seems incomplete.

We need a proper purge of these maulvis.

Sind government instructed that loudspeakers from the mosques will be used and people to pray from home.

Federal government says only selected people will pray and rest of the non selected muslims are barred.

You sure? I thought sindh said the same as the centre.

Anyway, people just need to get with the programme honestly. Even if only a few people pray at the mosque, it's a waste of resources having to disinfect it regularly. Just shut it for a couple of weeks and let's see if the infection rate can be slowed down.

Look, I fully understand if a lockdown is not total in third world countries because some basal economic functionality is required. I don't see how mosques fit into that definition. Even a university has more justification to stay partially open than a mosque. People have lost the plot here.

You sure?

There are 10 mosques within one square km of where i live. Every one of them did the announcement to discourage participation of elders in congregations who in turned argued the kids will return to them home once prayers are said and thus undo any social distancing exercise.

I just said you guys have powerful enough loudspeakers. Let them listen to the prayers and do it from home. that way women will get the pleasure too.

I got a 5 year old nephew in Madressah school and he is taking online classes.

By the way did daylight saving ever worked in Pakistan? Yeah thought so.

Unless and until they see a walking talking example, Pakistanis simply turn back and say what is your miracle that we follow your lead.

Govt imposes countrywide ban on congregational prayers in mosques
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – In the wake of preventing spread of deadly coronavirus, the incumbent government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Friday has banned congregational prayers in the mosques across the country.

According to details, the decision was taken in National Coordination Committee (NCC) meeting on Thursday after consulting the ulemas from all schools of thought.

However, Friday prayers have been limitized as only healthy persons are allowed to go to the mosques.

Following the orders, Sindh government has decided to ban congregational Friday prayers in the province from March 27 to April 5 and only three to five persons are permitted to visit mosques.

Meanwhile, Balochistan government has imposed a ban on congregation prayers, including Friday prayers in mosques across the province in a bid to stem the spread of coronavirus.

According to a notification issued by Balochistan home department, the ban will remain effective from today (March 27) till April 4.

Responding to the decision, the Ulema said that saving one life is equal to saving entire humanity therefore ensuring the safety of one’s life by staying at home should be the top priority. They advised people to pray at their homes and stay safe from the virus.

On the other hand,President Dr Arif Alvi expressed his gratitude to the Ulema for supporting the government’s policies against the coronavrus and urged them to advise and educate the people to stay indoors and offer prayers at homes, which would help contain the spread of disease.

The president appreciated the unity among Ulema, particularly the unanimous declaration issued by them in Karachi for adoption of preventive measures against Covid-19.

The Ulema assured their complete support and said they would comply with the instructions given by the government.

They said they had already taken a number of steps like cancellation of religious congregations, postponement of convocations and examinations, besides declaring holidays for over three million Madrassah (seminaries) students.

Other provinces are just following Sindh govt steps because of lack of clarity by federal govt at every matter. Federal govt of PTI proved themselves to be totally clueless and now other provinces have started looking at Sindh rather than Islamabad whenever important decision has to be taken.

.
People are not following it. Even at my society mosque their were jumma prayers albeit in limited number but not because the Imam but some people who themselves decided not to go. Otherwise its business as usual in Lahore specially in area that i live in.
