Govt decides to appoint Lt Gen (r) Asim Saleem Bajwa as chairman CPEC authority

Why is a military personal in charge of the $60 billion project? I am sure the there are competent people with the right academic discipline, within Pakistan to head such vital projects. We don't need 'YES MEN' heading vital posts, which will dictate Pakistan's economic future for the next 20+ years, our economic Gap to Gangadesh is widening, used to be 1/3 now its closer to 1/11..

Disappointed with IK, where yet again he is compromising on his own principles of 'merit,' well not entirely.. to IK's credit; Mr. General does have some merits (impressive 3 stars to his resume)... just not in the academic domain.. Maybe when Nawaz Sharif get better, the establishment can call him back to Pakistan to head the CPEC Authority, he is well known for his 'quality' motorways.. heck even got the stamp of approval from great Dictator Zia-ul-Haq.. of course it does come with an expensive price tag like 10 folds the actual cost, but you can't compromise on 'quality.'

On a completely different note.. I always wanted to be an Aerospace engineer*.. I probably buy the Lego star trek set, and when I am able to build it a couple of times, I may apply for the Head Engineering post at Airbus..
PIA ceo is a air marshall and he is really working hard to turn it around.

He's not the head because of academic excellence, it's just that he can use the stick pretty well! Must have very strong administration & system running skills.

I agree that our Military is the most efficient state institution by far, I just wish they took such initiatives on the bureaucracy front, if we can transform those backstabbing self-serving useless civil servants to proper patriotic men and women, then we wouldn't need CPEC, the country would be able to stand up on its own feet, and not depend on expensive foreign loans, where 1/3 of the budget goes to interest servicing alone, which could instead be allocated on infrastructure and vital social reforms yielding a far better ROI..

Read my post again, You clearly missed the point. It's not about: "if its not against the law then no one should have a problem with it" that kind of backward mentality has enslaved the country to those duo dynasties pigs of Punjab and Sindh... who rewrote the laws to suit them.. so tell me are you a Bhutto fan boy or sharifs? Either way Pakistan has to progress and march forward we cannot be stuck in this feudal society loop forever, which has already destroyed the social fabric of this country, if gangadesh run by King Kong can do it.. then surely the real successor to the Indus valley civilisation can do it too if not much better..

Good pick, I’m sure he has a wealth of experience in infrastructure investment, public finances, and doubtless a background in developmental economics.

In addition, he certainly has the correct qualifications and experience to control an entire trading channel from Gawadar to Skardu. What could be better?

(I predicted such an outcome a few years ago. :D )

It’s quite wise to out a military personnel in charge if such authority. Gwadar is under army and army’s surveillance. Projects need direct coordination with army security hence why Rtd Lt Gen Asim Bajwa Saheb is alloted

Good prediction, I saw this coming too, but my predictive abilities are woeful, have been hearing tidbits here and there for a while now.

New transport and commercial infrastructure, protected by newly raised resources, paid for by the people, and controlled by the system. Sound familiar? :D

Many other things I have said over the years will also be quite close to the reality once results start coming in, but who's counting? ;)

Army generals are an asset for our country..our country spends so much money and resources nurturing these brains and training them to take care of Pakistan strategically..it would be a waste to not use them for Pakistan's benefit after they retire..I read your comment above about being disappointed with IK's decision in this case..let me tell you why he is the best person for this job..you might not be aware of a lot of his accomplishments..He has already done something similar at a smaller level when he was posted in waziristan as a major general, he prepared the agency for the return of IDPs by building new infrastructure includings roads, markets, schools and hospitals..he has expertise in dealing with local and foreign media and in perception management which is exactly what we need to give CPEC a fresh start in the international arena..he will just be continuing this work at this position as he has already spent last two years working on it as commander southern command in Balochistan so this position will just be a continuation of work for him..who else could be better? Army generals are an asset for any government and such valuable human resource should not go to waste..I think more and more retired officers (those that have any juice left in them as army scks the life out of many good men) should be put to good work for the motherland wherever they can serve and be of help..most of them are hard working guys who like to leave an impact through sheer dedication..

Looks like the strategic value of CPEC is more than it's economic value...

CPEC is probably deemed with the urgency and gravity of the "do or die" military campaign...
its about time that this project be treated with some urgency, isnt it?

We're now in the era of the 5th gen warfare!!! It is run by the LGBTs, which means it's essentially "feminine" by nature!!! It further signifies it's basically a squabble b/w "mouths", and the gullible and credulous among the fools fall for it!!! Now, DG ISPRs are one such rare "Mert" folks who have been trained and delivered fighting off the best amongst the LGBTs!!! CPEC is the prime target in Pak's 5th gen warfare; therefore, the best general has been put into the command...

*Which husband has ever won on the "verbal skirmish" against his wife????
**A historical note: the Chinese invented the gun powder, and the Muslims built three Empires - Ottoman, Safavid and Mughal - by effectively using that with great successes

In person, i believe, you would be a great person to talk to. Some people have trouble bringing up new talks, you aren’t one of them.
Selam to you brother!!

What a surprise  civilians in Pakistan are just so incompetent that we need the generals to run the country whilst in uniform and then run the countrys biggest institutions when retired :disagree:

So sick of this!!! :hitwall:
