What's new

Govt decides to appoint Lt Gen (r) Asim Saleem Bajwa as chairman CPEC authority

it would be much better if govt appoints economic and financial expert or some successful ceo of company or entrepreneur with strong history in corporate matters, these generals have no knowledge about such matters as it is not their field

i think cpec information was provided by govt to get imf approval of bailout package as it was condition by imf so it is not good to blame these people for this leakage
Firstly, he is retired and a civilian now. He is highly organised and skilled in managing large scale projects. Fencing etc in Balochistan was all done under him. He knows the area from China border to Gawadar intimately from landscape to security.

Secondly, PA is the contractual guarantor of CPEC.

Thirdly, the so called best civilians technocrats (Razzaq Daud etc) brought in by Gov were recently thrown out of CPEC meetings with Chinese (at the demand of Chinese) as they were leaking information to US.

. .
Clearly Chinese input in this appointment. China was not happy with pti govt technocrats relevant to Cpec as most of the projects has been put to halt in the last 15 months or so. With this appointment and of Asad Umer, cpec will have a new dynamic leadership from our side. Asad Umer will be managing polticial and bureaucratic issues while he will be controlling administrative and security of the projects.

Think of it this way, a CEO is not always an expert in everything but what he has is the ability to manage various experts in various field such as Commercial, Economic, technical, security, etc. Hence, he should be fine as long as he has strong management skills and decision making skills of a CEO.

.
my only concern is that army general not limit cpec projects to real estate like schemes and may have less focus on setting up real manufacturing based industry

That is a valid concern. Bajwa is there to achieve goals and objectives given to him by the Government. Hence, I hope that the Government has the manufacturing industry objective outlined clearly in the "Holistic" Goals and objectives provided to Mr Bajwa as his KPIs. Hence he needs to achieve them or he will be shown the door.

In an ideal world, this post would have been best suited for a 'Civil' servant.
But the way these 'servants' have sucked the blood out of Pakistan is horrific.

Asim Bajwa's performance will be similar to that of FWO. As in, the way FWO handles projects. As far as I know, FWO is known for getting things done. The reason for that is Fauji danda on lower level faujis.

I read all comments some are v stupid in their hate against Army / PTI that they dont realize that he retired on 23 September 2019 so he is now a Civilian n Post for which he is appointed requires any Pakistani national . 2 . retired from Balochistan where CPEC starts not as a major or Col but LT Gen ( 3 Star ) n from a place where there was attack on PC Gwadar this year with warning to China n Pakistan . 3 . He remained DG ISPR for more than 4 years ( longest n first LT Gen DG ISPR ) so he has good skills in media management as well ( in era of 5th generation warfare ) . 4 . They forget that China input is also important in this appointment 5 . Balochistan > longest insurgency of Pakistan > CPEC Starts ( Army link ) 6 . Gilgit Baltistan ( India consider it his part ) > CPEC ends ( Army link ) 7 . He served in Waziristan as well n looked after infrastructure n rehabilitation projects as well .
He is well suited in this era of misinformation n challenges to Pakistan ( Balochistan , GB , AJK N CPEC ) .
May ALLAH ( GOD ) help him Aameen .

V Professional n experienced as he remained Corps Commander Balochistan (SC) , IG Arms as Lt Gen besides DG ISPR for more than 4 years . He is not affiliated to any Political party so will consider all Provinces n Areas equal n will not ignore any area of need .Good Decision .

Tell me about his experience as a project manager on an infrastrucfure project. Is he a PMI certified? Maybe he done Nebosh or IOSh atleast. Just tell me he is a fire inapector atleast. None of that? Wow.

@Indus Pakistan, @Zibago..

while he will be controlling administrative and security of the projects

So make him security incharge then. Or maybe head of those newly formed divisions for cpec security.

Is the one running the PIA had any experience in civilan aircraft---or the one Gen Musharraf appointed to run the steel mill did he have any experience running such mega projects---???

i think main objective of CPEC authority is to remove bottlenecks and coordinate with all the ministries for timely completion of projects, all the technical details are either have been discussed or done by planning ministry so Asim Saleem sb will only be making sure no delays by ministries.

PMI certification is a walk in the park! Any Tom Dick and Harry can be a PMP ... EASILY! 5 days study and 2 exams and one walks away with a PMI certification!

Chinese have their own version.

Job of the CEO is not be a certified project manager, qualified accountant, accredited engineer blah blah blah. His/her job is to manage the team of specialists to achieve the goals and targets. Hopefully this will make it easir for your understanding.

You will find almost all CEOs of fortune 500 to be specialists in ONLY one field but it's their ability/strength to manage and direct other specialists from other fields that counts and gets them to the CEO post.

Also I have yet to come across a CEO from the PMO.

A retired general can become Prime minister Chief minister senator federal minister
Then why can't he head a project which is related to the national security
