I think we need to have a serious discussion about things like this being done to us and we possibly doing the same. As much as I deplore the use of things like Facebook for any meaningful debate, I too must confess that it plays a significant role in shaping the opinions of a large number of people.

I just want someone to comfort me and tell me we are not sitting ducks.

This is called 'manufacturing consent' and providing arguments to your head that you otherwise would never have built or seen yourself. This is a very widespread tool used by almost all the agencies now.

I was on an assignment in Quetta and I met a group there who were working on social sector development through an NGO. They had a guy who was a PhD (from Iran with Iranian roots) and all he would do is manage a gathering every night at dinner at his place. His task was to tell stories of how prosperous Punjab was and how it was eating up on the resources of Baluchistan and the naive villagers would take it on face value 100%, not questioning why he was doing what he was doing. I then checked out a few commoners and noted that they were well oiled with that guys agenda and would counter almost every logical question with a statement of their own about Punjab and Army and rest of the country. It was a classic case of 'manufacturing consent'. Those from the men who were sensible enough to question him were labelled 'daughters of Baluchistan' to rev up their anger so that with an angry mind they would not be able to use logic and common sense

Oh, i though you were talking about the Pakistani ones. Was wondering how the media cell plan to "influence the world". In fact, would have been quite happy if they accomplished that rather than fooling our own.

Anyway, it is not about the Pakistani government paid trolls so that is that.
