The government is likely to invite PayPal again, a US-based financial services company and online money transfer system, for expanding to Pakistan and launching their services in the country.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ignite Yusuf Hussain, while briefing the Senate Standing committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication, requested that Prime Minister Imran Khan and Advisor on Finance should talk to CEO PayPal and invite them to come to Pakistan.

The committee observed that due to the lack of an online money transfer system, the country is losing huge foreign exchange reserves, and also hurting Pakistan’s freelance sector. Entrepreneurs are being deprived of millions of dollars as well.

Senator Faisal Javed of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) assured the committee that the matter of bringing PayPal to the country would be taken up with the Prime Minister and Advisor on Finance.

In earlier committee meetings, it was revealed that PayPal is not coming to Pakistan due to no legal backing and money laundering incidents in the country.

CEO Ignite further said that Ignite focuses on fourth industrial wave tech and on ecosystem development initiatives to fulfill its mission of creating a knowledge economy in Pakistan. The national network of incubators nurtures startups, while the Seed Fund provides grants to innovative, deep tech projects and startups.

DigiSkills.pk will train one million people in the future of work by 2020 and have trained around 0.5 million so far at a cost of around Rs. 700 per person. He further said that people trained under DigiSkills have earned around $38 million so far.

Since I was following this particular news. If I recall, it was Asad Umar who announced that there would be some kind of alternative to paypal arriving in Pakistan last December. Now here we go again with the paypal munjun, lets see how things go this time.....

The alternative is alipay or Pakistan own solution like Indias paytm ..

Majority of People prefer cash,
Card transaction dont exist in smaller to medium cities , and even in bigger cities you can count the shops which provide that support.
Paypal isnt something magical, the charges are high as well on transactions
I would suggest to use Alibaba or Wepay
Its much better low charges which will help both sellers and buyers

Paypal is important for foreign transaction ..nothing else..and there is no alternative to it

Enlighten me, cant the government fund a company to create their own system like the Chinese have?

This is what people use to say when Government was trying to start 3G 4G services.
Who's gonna use it?
Very few people own smartphones in Pakistan and all this type of negative talk.

And then the Tele companies also started to believe all that and it was very hard to convince them to start these services and they eventually did and today only Zong has more than 11 Million 4G customers and they were one of the first companies to offer these services. And altogether Pakistan has more than 50 Million 4G subscribers.

Let this new service start and believe me people will find use for it and it'll become part of life for many people but it has to start from somewhere. And then other companies will also start their services and provide cheap alternatives.

Alternatives to paypal dont really exist.

There really is no alternative to PayPal. We should hold a meeting with the CEO of PayPal and get a list of what exactly is required to bring them to Pak.

AliPay was supposed to start, but the issue with any payment app is that it has to be globally popular to be a viable option and only PayPal has that outreach.

offer should be in the form of "if not now then you wont be allowed to enter for next 20 years"
