Expressing concern over the "menace" of corruption in the wake of a series of scams, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday said it demeans and dents India's image.

"Corruption strikes at the roots of good governance. It is an impediment to faster growth. It dilutes, if not negates, our efforts at social inclusion. It dents our international image and it demeans us before our own people," Manmohan Singh said, addressing the second annual conference of chief secretaries of states here.

The prime minister said the "challenge" of corruption needed to "be faced frontally, boldly and quickly".

He said the government has set up a group of ministers to look "into all measures, legal or administrative, to tackle this menace".

He also mentioned two bills introduced in parliament relating to judicial accountability and the protection of whistleblowers.

"Along with legislation, the necessary revamp of administrative practices and procedures needs to be fast-tracked," he said.

He asserted that a systemic response needs to be put in place to reduce opportunities for corruption.

"It is now well documented that the introduction of competition, greater choice and modern technology can cut down the opportunities for corruption in a very meaningful manner."

The world has to get used to it.

BJP may be far from perfect..But it is definately better than Congress..
Congress is a populist government..they never stick to a policy..but wait to see where the wind is blowing...In this case BJP is a far better party..we may agree with them or not..but atleast we know where they stand..

many scams had taken place under BJP(NDA) regime..but they pale in comparision to scams unearthened under Congress...

Each day a new scam comes out...i think the amount of money stolen during these 8 yrs can cover this whole country many times over...

China, like other nations, did not achieve prosperity in one day. And whatever they have achieved has never been due to communism alone ; It's a pseudo-communist regime with pro-capitalist development policies in economics ; So China has achieved nothing on account of Communism except, maybe around 20 million odd deaths, and the art of making a Chinese-copy. So please take your Communism didactics, start moving away from the Web(a Western phenomenon BTW) and start carving your messages on Stone.

NO.. & may be not in future too ...CPI & CPM are the most corrupt parties in India 1000 times more corrupt then congress... next election they cant even retain there traditional strong holds like Kerala & West Bengal...Its good to know that future of communist parties are fading in India...
