As India's proposed new Food Security Act hovers in political limbo, the nation remains hungry. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh made headlines in early January when he labelled the fact that 44 per cent of children less than five years old were underweight and 65 children die each day of malnutrition "a national shame".

Indeed, India ranks among the 15 hungriest countries in the world according to the Global Hunger Index - a grim fact made even grimmer when one recalls that one out of every six people on Earth lives in India.

Will India's poor remain hungry?

Demographic Dividend?

In fact, OVERPOPULATION is killing India

In fact, percentage wise, there are less % of hungry Indians today than there were two decades ago, say.

In fact, when the World Bank revised upward its international poverty line norm from $1 a day, they found that nearly five out of 10 Indians were living on less than $1.25 (about 55 rupees) a day. What is worse, their number is on the rise, despite a fall in percentage terms.

The World Bank said that out of an estimated population of about 1 billion in 2005, the number of poor people living below $1.25 a day had increased from 421 million in 1981 to 456 million in 2005. This is the biggest challenge facing India.

World Bank's definition of poverty doesn't apply to Indians because of the cost of living in India.

BTW, do you consider a person with a mobile phone poor or not?

All your answers lay in the answer to this question alone.

India has over 601 million active mobile subscribers today and has the highest subcriber growth rate IN THE WORLD.

63 rd India Republic Day

World Bank's definition of poverty doesn't apply to Indians?? The cost of living in India is so much more expensive than african countries!
