Give Agricultural Land to Poor

Organic farming is being done by corporations throughout Europe with excellent yields. Even if most of the produce is exported, how is it bad? More exports mean that the country will be able to import more. Nobody is saying that Fauji Group should be the only group to invest in corporate farming.

I can't believe that I am about to defend the Fauji Group. If the food inflation becomes too high in the country then Fauji Group will be able to fix this as profit isn't everything to our military. Keep in mind that a substantial increase in food inflation will result in a lot of bad things that harm the interest of our military.

@Goenitz @Meengla
The western model for more and more exports to support useless luxurious items imports is wrong. High growth formulas are also wrong. We should produce for our own consumption and reduce reliance on costly imports. IMF conditionality accepted by State Bank today is to allow imports without any restrictions. Western imperialism wants to reduce us to exporters of raw materials and low processing items. That is why they force us to devalue our currency again and again so that they can get cheap products from the third world countries. If the army and the foreigner capitalists are getting 50 lac acres of land from the country their bellies should be full now and let the landless people have the other 50 lac acres. But it seems that their bellies are like Hell which always says Hal Man Mazeed! Bring More, even if everything is put inside it.

GIVE AGRICULTURAL LAND TO THE POOR

The total rural land in Pakistani Government possession is estimated to be about one crore acres. With the Corporate Farming initiative for Foreign and Local businesses on 40 lac acres and 10 lac acres recently given to the Army in the Punjab province, that leaves about 50 lac acres of land in government control.

It is an established Islamic Economics principle that anyone who encircles common state land and cultivates it, becomes its owner and if he leaves it fallow for three years then it is reverted.

So, following this principle, the government should allocate 5 to 10 acres of land to rural youth and landless farmers. In this way, the total agricultural yield of the country would increase and jobless youth coming to cities from villages will stop thus reducing the burden on the mega cities. The youth would also become self sufficient. The country would become a food exporter in a few years.

@AZ1
Correct.... these haramkhors are the 'poorest' of all... remember the charity institutions they run as economies and declare them as losses without paying a single bit of taxes.

26bil dollars.

Abolish the feudal systems and land distribution is a must. Bonded labourers.

It seems Pak army is now the new feudal lords...

They must fight for economic rights vs fight on the borders. How else they can keep sponsoring the maradarchod terrorists organisations across the regions and then turn them inwards as needed to take the heat off themselves.

East Pakistanis did the best... the army was too cowardly... the civilians would have hung each and every one of them...

This import substitution methodology is retarded in so many ways. This policy is for countries like Iran and Russia which are under sanctions. Countries that are part of global trade should never do this. The path of import substitution is the path of stagnation. IMF is 100% correct. The lack of a free market is one of the reasons why our country is a sh*thole. Our corporations are protected by the state and do not innovate because they have no reason to. Import restrictions and lack of export targets set by the government allow these pathetic corporations to survive. If there was a free market, these clowns would get wiped out in a month. Devaluing our currency also makes our products more competitive resulting in higher inflows of dollars in the country due to increases in exports. South Korea followed this model in an even more extreme manner than Western countries and turned into an economic powerhouse. Vietnam, Indonesia and India did the same thing. You can't start from zero and instantly turn into a developed economy. Name one economically successful developing country that doesn't heavily prioritise exports. The main reason China is a superpower is because the whole world depends on the goods that China exports. Also, you can't industrialize without importing foreign machines. Import restrictions destroy the manufacturing industries of the country. Also, a lot of items that are considered "luxurious" by our retarded government are considered basic necessities nowadays.

yes let's do what Zimbabwe exactly did 20 years ago

You're an idiot

Pakistani farmers with land holdings of ten acres are so successful, they are sending their children to college.

Hell no, agricultural land should only be owned by corporations be they private or public.

I am not to sure about that buddy

Especially for a developing country where farming provides employment to a good chunk of the population

Have you seen how unbelievably unproductive our farmers have been with their agricultural lands? Even our feudal lords have failed to be productive with their agricultural lands.

If the govt provides good quality seeds and solar electricity, the small landholders can form cooperatives to buy machinery and deliver good yields. They also have buffaloes and cows whose dung can be used as organic fertilzer. They normally do multi-cropping and get three crops per year.

government would never give land they rather ppl die from hunger.

If the government provides the same things to a corporation, the yields will be 10 times higher.

Then the landless farmers will have to work as slave labour at low wages in the corporate farms.

Subedars and Majors running corporate farms will be a disaster. My uncle who was a Colonel sold off family land and bought 275 acres land near the border. He ran it with his subedar for 10 years and did not show one rupee profit.

More jobs will be created for skilled labour and our agriculture exports will increase. For corporate farms to work, competent people have to be employed or the corporation will collapse and be replaced by another. If you are worried about the poor farmers then you should be advocating for universal healthcare and education and other welfare programs for the poor, this way you aren't sacrificing the productivity of your farmlands.

govt land should be auctioned off to all global companies

lots of big agri would want this land

they can bring in the latest GMO crops and machinery and provide cheap food to domestic population and surplus can be exported all at market rates

this is a recipe for famine. Do you think anyone who is given land is automatically going to figure out how to farm ?

Land will be given to village youth who know how to farm.

Although I disagree with OP, most small farmers in Pakistan are screwed by the system. They are unable to invest because the mill owners and wholesalers work as a cartel and drive down the prices they pay. Try getting an export licence as a farmer.

The vast majority of rural Pakistan survives on what they grow and eat. Without that we'd be starving.

Not a bad idea given;

1. The person who takes up the land has trained in agriculture.
2. The person who takes on the land, farms the land every year.
3. Its not sold, it's a lease for them to use the land to grow food on.

For this to work, we need agricultural colleges with short courses teaching people how to farm effectively first.

What we should definitely stop doing is giving farming land and plots to govt employees, especially faujis.

it will never work. Most t=of them will sell the land in a year or two. Just dont have the money to make it work... do you know how costly it has got? you need 2 lac per acre for potato, 1.5 for corn, 1.75 for rice....etc. and all of that considering you will get some back, in pakistani market no one knows whats going to happen. Corn this year was really bad in this regard. For a medium level tractor you need 20 lac. for most of the equipment you are gonna need 3-10 lac depending on equipment. You also need to take care of tubewell bills, which is going to be between 70000 to 120000. What govt should do is something that pakistan did during first 10-15 years after independence. Auction the land. Earn money, there is tons of valuable land in govt `s possession that will either be encroached or leased to some political affiliate of ruling party. Sell the land at a high price.. Thats the solution.

No family should be allowed to own more than 100 acres of land. By family I mean grandfather, his all boys and their all boys.

becoz you have not

you seems communist

Yup.
As if disastrous policies of the Maos or the Mogabe are not out there for nations to learn from.

Sort of related to this topic, is this video I saw today about the Hub Dam near Karachi--another long lasting blessing of President Ayub Khan, but I digress!! Funny thing is the technical guy in the video keeps correcting the Vlogger but no big deal. What's important to note is that another dam could be built to hold the same amount of water which is being discharged to the sea. And also imagine the loss of tourism and agriculture potentials. Lake Tahoe? Nakki Lake? Mangla Lake? Keenjhar Lake? Karachi is not far away for tourism money.

Sorry, somehow I have been missing the 'mentioned' but I just happened to come to this thread and saw you quote me. And I don't ignore your mentions ;)
At this point, whatever it takes for Pakistan to get away from the abyss is good enough. I tend to you agree with your post.

People always have a rosy and rainbow picture in their head of how things will just fall magically into place if people were simply given a fair start.

Unfortunately things are not always as simple. Farming isn't an easy job and it doesn't take much to lose everything if there is drought or flood. It isn't cheap and it's a lot of hard work that requires patience and accepting setbacks.

As people have mentioned it is more likely many of these new farmers will cash out and take their chances on something else.

I remember a story in the US about giving people new houses for almost nothing so they wouldn't be homeless and get a fresh start on life. Well many simply sold them for the quick cash.

That "great idea" solved nothing.

if you earn it the hard way you are more likely to keep it because you know the pain

So how should the land be distributed?

How do you ensure that this land will actually be distributed to the poor and not taken away in the name of the poor by those who hold the power?

There is absolutely no way to enforce such 'egalitarian policies' in a country like Pakistan. For years, I have chuckled at the PDF Pakistanis naivete about 'we should do this. We should do that. We need this revolution. We need to throw out the corrupt' blah blah. This 'we' is so high flatulence! Many are expats who probably can't speak or write Urdu.

No doubt, high ideals but who will bell the cat, as I have often asked here? The uniformed and the civilian ruling classes of Pakistan are all the same and that's why I have stubbornly resisted talks of fake revolutions and despise the fake revolutionaries. Some of them, btw, are out to destroy the last standing functional institution in Pakistan. Well... I won't mention that name here--tomorrow, yes ;)

Assume a Pakistani was selling a crate of mangoes for 200 Pakistani rupees when 1 US Dollar was 200 Pakistani Rupees
Now the currency was devalued to 400 Pakistani Rupees for each US Dollar. How much do you think the Pakistani is selling the crate of mangoes for ?

Restricting land annexation is the same as being a communist?

As early as the 16th century B.C., Dong Zhongshu, a minister of Emperor Liu Che of the Han Dynasty of China, enacted a law restricting land annexation and setting a ceiling on individual land ownership. By your logic, was the Han Empire the first Soviet regime?

Why limit land annexation? Because if there is no restriction on land annexation, those who hold the power will inevitably continue to annex more and more land, and more and more landless peasants will become de facto serfs dependent on them. The holders of power and large quantities of land will solidify the upward and downward movement of social classes, denying opportunities to talented people at the bottom of the ladder, and ultimately leading to increasingly stupid regimes. The holders of power and land will also use their power to gain privileges to evade and avoid taxes, ultimately weakening the entire nation and the state. The life of the people at the bottom will become more and more difficult, and they will not have a sense of belonging to the country and the nation if they do not see any hope. In the event of a foreign enemy or a large-scale natural disaster. These people at the bottom will rebel or commit treason.

孟子说:“民之为道也,有恒产者有恒心,无恒产者无恒心。”

Mencius(Chinese, 372–289 BC, a Chinese Confucian philosopher who has often been described as the "second Sage") said, "It is those who have regular industry and a steady income who have strong faith and good morals."
