And if we do it, people of GB would rejoice, there'd be no need to enforce curfews as they have done in IOK. That's the difference between our side and theirs.
Extreme need of the hour and frankly it would save the region from the Predatory policies that the region has had to suffer from since 1949 and the most unfair situation was faced by the state of Nagar and state of Hunza which were separate Princely states yet were pooled into this dispute and brought under the greedy hands of the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan. Frankly Pakistan can very easily find solid legal arguments to justify such and the fact that it didnt before is the height of cruelty but what has been done has been done. It must be corrected now. Immediate Provincial status is the need of the hour and Pakistan can base this on several facts without looking at other regional examples.
1. That the State of Hunza and State of Nagar acceded to Pakistan separately and the Gilgit council post its freedom, acceded to Pakistan without any duress thus the support of the people of the current region of Gilgit Baltistan towards acceding to Pakistan goes without saying.
2. Pakistan does not recognize the Maharaja of Kashmir as the legal authority of Kashmir as he lost its mandate over the people of Kashmir post the brutalities it inflicted on the people of Kashmir and Jammu and Pakistan immediately recognized the Azad government announced by Sardar Ibrahim on 22nd October 1947 and since then has always saw them as the legitimate rulers of the Entire state of Kashmir. This fact is corroborated that post its recognition of Azad Kashmir as the sole representative of the people of Kashmir and the Muslim Conference under Ghulam abbas as the sole political representative of the people of Kashmir, it has not afforded recognition to any other party and Pakistan can utilize Revolutionary Constitutionalism to strengthen its point. As the legal authority over the region, the government of Azad Kashmir provided the areas of Ladakh and Gilgit Baltistan to Pakistan in Karachi Agremeent, in accordance to the wishes of the people living there and thus the government of Azad Kashmir has always seen the region as part of Pakistan and its provincial status has nothing to do with the Kashmir issue. The recognition of Azad government and Azad forces is afforded to them even in UN resolutions of the 1950s in Resolution 80, 91, 96 and 98 as well as in th4e Mcnaughton principles.
3. The Change will bring no legal change on the ground and will only provide representation to the people of GB to the Pakistani Assembly whereas the Constitutional nature of the Constitution of 1973 provides such autonomy that the local authority will only be empowered with such a step which frankly it will be.
The above can be good grounds to build a case and justification for such an action if there is opposition however it must again be stated that we cannot rule over regions as colonies and it is imperative that we provide them the autonomy that we have provided the regions that compose Pakistan so that the sense of deprivation amongst them can be addressed and we never face a situation where the most patriotic of people turn against us.
