Germany to withdraw Patriot missiles from Turkey in 2016 | Zee News

Berlin: Germany on Saturday said it would withdraw its two Patriot missile batteries from Turkey early next year, ending its role in a three-year NATO mission to help bolster the country`s air defences against threats from Syria`s civil war.

The German army, known as the Bundeswehr, said on its website that the mandate for the mission would run out on January 31, 2016, and would not be renewed.

Germany will also call back around 250 soldiers who are currently deployed in southeastern Turkey as part of the mission, the statement said.

"Along with our NATO partners, we have protected the Turkish people from missile attacks from Syria," Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen was quoted as saying in the statement.

"We are ending this deployment in January 2016," she said, adding that the main threat in the crisis-wracked region now came from the Islamic State group.

Turkey turned to its NATO allies for help over its troubled frontier after a mortar bomb fired from Syrian territory killed five Turkish civilians in the border town of Akcakale in 2012.

The United States, the Netherlands and Germany each sent Patriot missile batteries in response. Germany`s Patriot missile system is based in the Turkish town of Kahramanmaras, some 100 kilometres (60 miles) from the Syrian border.

Originally used as an anti-aircraft missile, Patriots today are used to defend airspace by detecting and destroying incoming missiles. NATO deployed Patriot missiles in Turkey during the 1991 Gulf war and in 2003 during the Iraqi conflict.

Not only about Zekeriya Öz, many times Erdoğan told that Germany supports terrorism against Türkiye... He said this in a diplomatic way...

He many times told that... "Many times I gave proven documents to Merkel about terrorist who works against Türkiye but she didn't give these terrorists to us by using lies"

Hopefully domesic air defence projects such as Korkut, Hisar-A and Hisar-O will be completed and integrated in the air defence network to compensate.

US to withdraw Patriot missiles from Turkey in October | Zee News
Last Updated: Sunday, August 16, 2015 - 20:17

Istanbul: Turkey and United States said on Sunday that Washington would withdraw its Patriot missile batteries from the country in October after bolstering Ankara`s air defences against threats from Syria`s civil war.

The NATO mandate for the two-year mission will run out in October and will not be renewed, but the US is prepared to return Patriot assets and personnel to Turkey within one week if needed, a joint Turkish-US statement said.

"They will be redeployed to the US for critical modernisation upgrades that will ensure the US missile defense force remains capable of countering evolving global threats and protecting Allies and partners, including Turkey," the statement said.

It also emphasised that Washington remains committed to "support Turkey`s air defense capabilities, including against ballistic missile risks and threats."

The move comes as Turkey and the US are preparing to jointly launch coordinated cross-border operations against Islamic State (IS) targets in northern Syria.

The US and Turkish officials have said that the military from the two sides is currently working to coordinate logistics and once it is completed, full-scale operations against IS would start.

Turkey turned to its NATO allies for help over its troubled frontier after shells landed on its border areas from Syria in October 2012, killing several villagers.

The United States, the Netherlands and Germany have provided a total of six Patriots batteries along the Turkish border with Syria. Germany on Saturday also said it would withdraw its two missiles from Turkey early next year.

Originally used as an anti-aircraft missile, Patriots today are used to defend airspace by detecting and destroying incoming missiles. NATO deployed Patriot missiles in Turkey during the 1991 Gulf war and in 2003 during the Iraqi conflict.

Turkey is currently pressing a two-pronged "anti-terror" offensive against IS jihadists in Syria and Kurdistan Workers` Party (PKK) militants in northern Iraq and southeast Turkey following a wave of attacks inside the country.

Ankara launched its first air strikes against IS targets in late July but then put them on hold, instead concentrating its firepower on Kurdish militants in operations that have troubled its allies.

Cin ile anlasmis olabilir miyiz? Bence bu durum bir misilleme gibi. "Madem Cin fuzesi aliyorsunuz, onlar sizi korusun bakalim" der gibi.

Is it protest to air defence systems contract with PRC?

Turkey is going to get F 35 and already Turkish defense industry is working on its own Missile defense system .

The missile system is being developed by a team of Roketsan, a state-controlled missile maker; military specialist Aselsan, Turkey's biggest defense company; and ARMERKOM, an Istanbul-based research and development unit of the Turkish Navy.

Rokestsan announced the first autopilot-controlled test missile of its Hisar-A, a low-altitude air defense missile, was successfulin a series of tests June 19-24. Along with the autopilot-controlled test missile, Roketsan said the Hisar-A system's ballistic test missile BTF-2 also was successfully tested.

US pulls Patriot missile systems from Turkey | Zee News

"The US has informed the Turkish government that the US deployment of Patriot air and missile defence units in Turkey which expires in October will not be renewed beyond the end of the current rotation," Xinhua reported citing the statement.

The batteries would be re-deployed to the US for "critical modernisation upgrades that will ensure the US missile defence force remains capable of countering evolving global threats and protecting Allies and partners, including Turkey," said the statement, adding that this decision follows a US review of global missile defence posture.

Hayir, sen git Uygurlari koru. Cin Turkiyenin 'dusmanidir'. Turkey needs to go to China AND Russia. Let aside historical crap. One side fights for territorial integrity, the other side is promoting dismemberment. If there is ONE thing that is of the utmost importance, it's territorial integrity. Turkey should prepare to leave NATO. Buy top of the line Russian and Chinese weaponry with ToT, and when strong enough, leave that organization.

U.S.: Patriot pullout from Turkey reflects weaker Syria
August 17, 2015

The U.S. decided to pull its Patriot missile defense force out of Turkey mainly because it sees a declining Syrian military threat, including a depleted stockpile of Scud missiles capable of striking Turkish territory, the Pentagon said Monday.

The move is the latest twist in an evolving U.S.-Turkey partnership that is coping with the fallout from Syria's civil war. Just last month Turkey agreed to take a more active role in the U.S.-led campaign against the Islamic State group in Syria and Iraq and to allow the U.S. to use its bases for airstrikes. Last week the U.S. military announced that six F-16 fighter jets had arrived at Turkey's southern Incirlik air base, and they began flying missions over Syria on Wednesday.

U.S. officials have said they also are considering deploying combat search-and-rescue aircraft and personnel to Turkey, now that the F-16s are flying, and Turkey and the U.S. are in talks on how to integrate Turkish warplanes into the U.S.-led air campaign.

A Pentagon spokesman, Navy Capt. Jeff Davis, said Monday that a battery of Patriot missiles operated by the U.S. Army would be withdrawn from Turkey in October and not replaced. He said the battery would return to the U.S. for upgrades and that the move will not lessen the U.S. commitment to helping defend Turkey against threats from Syria.

Patriots, which are designed to defend against aircraft as well as ballistic missiles, were first sent to Turkey in January 2013 as part of a NATO response to Turkey's request for support against what it saw as a threat from Syrian missiles.

"The threat calculus has changed somewhat since 2013 as we we've seen the Assad regime grow weaker and as we've seen them shoot through the majority of their missile stock at targets there domestically," Davis told reporters.

The Patriots were never fired, he said.

Davis declined to provide specifics on the remaining Syrian missile stockpile but said it has diminished greatly since the early period of the Syrian civil war when the Bashar Assad government frequently fired Scud missiles at rebel forces.

"We've seen that drop off now," Davis said.

The spokesman said the changed circumstances in Turkey led to a judgment that the Patriots could be withdrawn this fall to upgrade them while Patriot missile batteries remain deployed in other parts of the world facing a bigger threat.

"For now, we don't necessarily assess this as being the highest priority globally for where these missiles should be," he said.

AP Broadcast correspondent Sagar Meghani contributed to this report.

That's kinda' silly considering both Russia and China can't stand you and have opposite interest in central Asia.
Russia fighting for territorial integrity....lolz...maybe they'll also guarantee yours, if you accept to leave NATO? Or maybe not...

For what's happening now in Turkey, well, play stupid games win stupid prizes...unfortunately.

True. But Turkey can turn around it's policies. That bs 'turkism' can be dropped like a hot potato when Turkey's integrity is on the line. Bet that.
