Saudi Arabia and Georgia sign an agreement during the Global Aviation Summit 2019 in Riyadh. (SPA)
Riyadh - Fatehelrahman Yousif
Georgia looks forward to launching strategic partnerships with Saudi Arabia in the fields of aviation, renewable energy, electricity, logistics, mining, food, agriculture, healthcare and tourism, said its deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Akaki Saghirashvili.
He revealed that the agreement signed recently with Riyadh on aviation services will boost investments and bilateral trade.
Saghirashvili told Asharq Al-Awsat that Saudi Arabia is a “pioneering strategic partner” in the Middle East and Georgia looks forward to strengthening this partnership.
He urged Saudi investors to benefit from the privileges Georgia offers.
Moreover, he noted the agreement he signed with the Transport Minister of Saudi Arabia on the sidelines of the Global Aviation Summit 2019, which was held in Riyadh earlier this week.
The agreement will go beyond the aviation field and open new prospects for cooperation with the Kingdom in various related sectors, he said.
Saghirashvili said that his country boasts promising opportunities for investment in the health and medical care, tourism, energy, renewable energy, aviation and industrial food and agricultural sectors.
Tourism is one of the major sectors attracting investment, he noted, saying that 50,000 Saudi visited his country, a number that is expected to increase. This reflects the Saudi interest in Georgia as a tourist and commercial destination.
Saghirashvili spoke about deals with the European Union in the aviation sector and huge services in this field. He noted that Georgia’s airports receive hundred of thousands of tourists regularly due to its attractive tourist spots.
He said that Georgia kicked off a structural reform process to transform into a free market economy, making it one of the fastest growing economies in eastern Europe.
The World Bank classified Georgia as number one in economic reforms in the world because it jumped from rank 112 to 18 in one year in the Doing Business index, he said.
