ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulation Authority (PEMRA) Thursday nailed a show-cause notice on Geo TV for telecasting objectionable content during a 'morning show' hurting the religious sentiments of Muslims, Samaa reported.
The watchdog says it has received more than 5,000 complaints against the media group.
In the notice issued the regulatory authority has demanded a reply from the satellite news channel’s administration at the earliest.
According to sources, all the complaints received have been forwarded to Complaint Council, which is expected to announce its decision within a week.
This is the second notice within a span of a month the mammoth media group has received.
The Jang/Geo Group is under fire from all sides since it attacked the chief of Pakistan’s spymaster, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Maj General Zaheerul Islam with allegations of masterminding an armed assault on senior journalist Hamid Mir.
Last month PEMRA had slapped a similar notice on Geo News for allegedly bringing ISI and its chief into disrepute.
