ANKARA: Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Tariq Majeed and Turk President Abdullah Gul held one-on-one meeting here on Monday, Geo news reported.
Belling out his countrys, peoples and governments strong resolve to stand by Pakistan through all odds, coming in way of war on terrorism, Turkish president reiterated determination to keep cooperating with Pakistan in curbing regional and international terrorism.
He urged need for formation of Turk-Pak joint institute to enhance military cooperation between two countries.
Turkish government is proud of Pakistani army over its successive offensives against militancy, he maintained adding that we want to learn from the experiences of Pakistani military to uproot extremism.
CJCSC, on the occasion, assured Turkish President Gul of Pakistani armys all-out support in all aspects against menace of terrorism.
In honor of the close friendship and dedication between their two countries, Turkish Chief of General Staff Gen. İlker Başbuğ conferred Monday the Turkish Armed Forces Medal of Merit upon Pakistani Chief of General Staff Gen. Tariq Majid.
Başbuğ welcomed Majid at the Turkish General Staff headquarters with a military ceremony.
Turkey and Pakistan have a friendly relationship based on history, said Başbuğ in a speech given in English.
“Military individuals have had a great contribution to the advancement of these relations. Gen. Majid has received many medals in his own country. But I think this medal presented by the Turkish Armed Forces holds a different meaning, for this medal is an indicator of the important steps taken by Gen. Majid to further relations between the armed forces of the two countries,” Başbuğ said.
"Gen. Majid, accept this medal of merit as I wish prosperity and happiness for our fellow Pakistani people and outstanding success for the Pakistani Armed Forces," Başbuğ said.
Gen. Majid said in his speech that the medal of merit holds a great deal of importance and that he would work to further Turkish-Pakistani relations in the future.

He expressed these views while talking with Turkish President HE Mr. Abdullah Gul, Minister of Defence Mr. Vecdi Gonul and General Ilker BASBUG, Chief of Turkish General Staff.
On arrival at Turkish General Staff Headquarters, General Tariq Majid was warmly welcomed and a guard of honour was presented by Turkish Armed Forces.
According to ISPR During his meeting with General Ilker BASBUG, Chief of Turkish General Staff, Chairman JCSC thanked him for the warm hospitality and offered his condolences for the loss of precious lives of the Turkish soldiers and citizens in the recent terrorist attacks and Freedom Flotilla incident. He appreciated Turkeys unflinching support to Pakistan against terrorism, its efforts to bring stability in Afghanistan and holding of tripartite and regional summits. CJCSC emphasized the need to institutionalize the defence and security dialogue mechanism at CDS level and training of officers at mid career and junior levels to cultivate brotherhood amongst the young officers. He also called for strategic partnership to work together in joint ventures; focusing on cutting edge technologies, R&D, marketing and transfer of technology in public as well as private sectors. General Ilker BASBUG, Chief of Turkish General Staff reminisced the good memories of his visit to Pakistan and applauded the professionalism and determination of Pakistans Armed Forces in fight against terrorism.
Later General Ilker BASBUG, Chief of Turkish General Staff conferred Legion of Merit on Chairman JCSC, General Tariq Majid for his untiring personal efforts to enhance the bilateral relations between Pakistan, Turkey and its armed forces.
Chairman JCSC also called on Turkish Minister of Defence Mr. Vecdi Gonul and discussed matters of bilateral interest and various mechanisms to enhance the existing cooperation especially collaboration in defence sector.
Later in the day, General Tariq called on the Turkish President HE Mr. Abdullah Gul and discussed matters pertaining to enhancement of relations between both countries. He reiterated that both countries have convergent perceptions on all regional and international issues and are facing common challenges. He further added that both brotherly countries must join hands to wipe out armed militancy and violent extremism from our societies. The Turkish president while recalling the lively and vivid memories of his visit to Pakistan, lauded the sacrifices rendered by Pakistani nation and its Armed Forces in their fight against terror and said that recent success of Pakistan against terrorism has made them proud. He also assured Turkeys unflinching support and further added that Turkey will always stand alongside Pakistan in all trying times.
Earlier General Tariq and his entourage visited Anitkabir; Ataturks Mausoleum and paid their respect to the great leader.
