American multinational conglomerate, General Electric which is setting up a plant in Pune is expected to be operational by mid-2014 and will be the company’s hub for exports to other countries.
The $200 million manufacturing facility in Chakan near Pune is spread over an area of 68 acres and will manufacture a range of diversified products for sectors like energy, aviation, oil and gas and transportation.
The facility, to begin with, will focus on Energy products and technologies driven by the industry needs for power generation, transmission and distribution as well as measurement and control.
The company believes that India has a huge talent pool which is its key strength.
GE which has operations in more than 140 countries, operates through four segments: Energy, Technology Infrastructure, Capital Finance and Consumer and Industrial. In India they have got 6000 engineers in Bangalore and 2000 in Hyderabad. They have got 1000 patents to their credit in India.
