These GE locos are for freight and are of similar design to the us/jap ge/hitachi locos from yesteryear that PR has experience with. New chinese locos have been procured since the cracks issue in the first delivery - mostly the fault of PR for lack of maintenance. most/all "manufacturing" of loco/engines are just assemblies or license builds. Chinese on the other hand are capable of designing and manufacturing from start to finish of the highest quality - way better than the indians can ever dream of.

GE also has a mfg/partnership plant in China that manufacture the locos for the high-altitude Tibet run.

Sadly PR's issues are not with the type of locos. It's with track maintenance, loco maintenance, excessive staffing, scheduling issues, and the general lack of policy direction with regards to transportation in Pak. Same with PIA. Newer planes or CEOs won't solve any of that. And yet Pakistanis allow themselves to be duped through political sloganeering of "development" and "bullet trains".

Alstom will import 5 & make 795 in Bihar in 10 years,

In November 2015 Alstom received a Letter of Award from the Ministry of Indian Railways to supply Indian Railways with 800 double section freight electric locomotives with associated long-term maintenance. TThe Prima locomotive for Indian Railways will be 9,000 kW at the wheel rim and will run at a speed up to 120 km/h.
So these are 9000kw or 12000HP.

Electric locomotives are too simple to design IR has been doing it since 60s.
Diesel locos are somewhat tough but almost all of locomotives built by different companies are same.
DLW has designed WDG5 rated at 5500HP diesel.
GE ES58ACi is rated at 6000HP which will be built in India.
The problem wasn't designing but FDI & new factories to meet demand.
Today IR has 6000 diesel & 5500 electric locomotives but that is not enough so three more factories are coming.

We have locomotive manufacturing factory at risalpur which was built with the co-operation of Japan. Whats its output. Is it rusted and closed or doing manufacturing.

The production rate and Technology usage is minimal , takes them like 6 months to overhaul a Engine while they do a overhaul in 7 days in USA for commercial engines by reputable firm

Just difference in Production efficiency and output which makes Rasulpor suck
they do get some engines out which look nice and shiny however they can't compete Day vs Day , output capacity

Modern facilities have facilities to repair / overhaul 10-15 engines side by side
At Rasulporr they lack such abilities work 2-3 engines a time etc
