Indian Fans, Rejoice! Khaleesi's Dragons In 'Game of Thrones' Were Actually Conceived In Mumbai

It's stuff like this that makes me want to somersault to work everyday! In a surprising GoT revelation, we've just found out that Khaleesi's dragons in Game of Thrones were born in India! Yes, they were conceptualised in Goregaon, Mumbai, by the Indian arm of an LA-based 3D, animation and visual effects company, Prana Studios, with a brief as simple as this: "Create not just creatures, but characters."

And so the work began. Over 800 visual experts, artists, animators, sound managers, and technology specialists got their heads together to create three massive characters that are Khaleesi's dragons - Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion.

In season 5 of Game of Thrones, the Indian subsidiary of Prana Studios also designed the "set and crowd extensions". This massive task was executed in partnership with an American visual animation studio, Rhythm and Hues. The studio was in fact acquired by Prana Studios in 2013 and has even bagged the Oscar for visual effects in Life Of Pi.

This isn't the first Indian VFX company that has left a noticeable mark on Hollywood biggies. Hollywood movies are increasingly depending on Indian VFX firms. One name that particularly stands out is Prime Focus, an Indian VFX studio that won this year's Oscar for Best Visual Effects in Interstellar.

Prime Focus has also enjoyed Academy nominations for blockbuster films like X-Men: First Class, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, and Hugo.

And it's only going to get bigger and better, especially for Game of Thrones. Prana Studios promises that the show will present new creatures very soon. We simply can't wait to see the worlds of Westeros and Essos create magic on our screen!

Also Indian films like Bahubali that cost over Rs150 crores to make. 90% is animations, special effects and CGI. It busted all box office records in India garnering over Rs50 crores in the first week itself!

Easy cop out, he went for easy money rather than pursue what he is good at.

Such was his talent, he got admit into one of US's big animation program in New York's Film Academy, but his parents didn't allowed him.

I had a friend in college, exceptionally talented in animation and GFX, unfortunately settled for an IT job in Accenture.
No no, he is quite fortunate.

I know these Animation and VFX companies in general and Prime Focus in particular.
They do a fine job but they don't pay well.
You need one Chief Animator, who will design the basics and then lots of others who do the manual work. That's why they come to India.
I used to stay in Goregaon, Aarey Colony at one time. That's where Prime Focus has it's biggest office. I know how they work.

Lanat on such parents

Actually his parents were the coolest in our gang, but coming from small city, such minor restrictions on career choices would be there. You should have seen the look on my father's face when I told him I want to take Cricket as a career option, when I was 14 years old.

Did you see the video you posted? Bahubali? Looks like lot of clips from the Lord of the Rings.

What a stupid video. Stop copying hollywood movie scenes to supplement local movie trailers. It looks moronic.

Why not do freelancing ? Or register a company and start fresh ? As long as you report to someone else, no body gonna pay u top dollars.
