French Army takes delivery of first batch of 400 HK416F assault rifles to replace old FAMAS.

Today, May 3, 2017, the French DGA (Defense Procurement Agency) has taken the delivery of first batch of 400 new HK416F 5.56mm assault rifles. The HK416F will replace the French Army's FAMAS bullpup assault rifles, which first entered service in 1979.

The procurement for the replacement of the standard assault rifle of the French Army was launched in May 2014. In September 2016, the French DGA has announced that the German-made Heckler & Koch HK416F has been selected as the next generation of assault rifle for the French armed forces. France's military programming law (LPM), calls for the delivery of 102,000 new service rifles by 2019.

French Army has also ordered 10.767 grenade launcher (HK2969F) in the calibre of 44 mm x 46, as well as accessories, ammunition, various components and support services for 15 years.

The HK416F will be delivered in two variants, long barrel for combat units and short barrel for the other units for the French army , air and naval forces. Some of the HK416F will be fitted with a 40mm grenade launcher HK269F mounted under the handguard also manufactured by HK.

The HK416 in various configurations is in service with many special forces around the world. In addition to Norway, France is now introducing the HK416 as the standard assault rifle for its Armed Forces.

With France (HK416F), Germany (G36), Great Britain (SA80), Norway (HK416) Spain (G36) and Lithuania (G36), Heckler & Koch supplies many Armies across Europe with their standard assault rifles.

The 416 performed best in the trials and met most of the criterias imposed,is reliable and has excellent feedbacks from the instructors and the special forces operators who are using the 416 for quite a time now. This weapon in its different versions is equipping the majority of the French special forces.

The weapon has been praised by Jean-Pierre Bosser,the chief of staff of the ground forces.

Not to add that the steel of the barrel is French (representing 30% of the weapon's cost) and that HK made a competitive offer about the price.

Politics was the reason for H&K which was being bailed out several times while HS Produkt is financially healthy and joint tank development was the nail in the coffin.

Nothing much interesting.

The soldier from 0:17 to 0:27 is saying "The first time I saw it (the rifle),was only in pictures and now having it in front of us is something exceptional,we are very happy".

From 0:51 to 1:04 the soldier is basically showing the individual package that's coming with every rifle : "10 magazines of 30 bullets,for the real ammos,3 magazines for blank firing ammos,of yellow color for the safety". (The video cuts here,but the individual package also includes a bayonet,a bipod and other small things)

From 1:07 the soldier is basically saying that he's "very proud to be part of the first French army unit to receive the HK416,looking forward with my section to train with and use it in operations".
